Kingpin: Life Of Crime, one of my all time favorites, it's 100% nasty.

Fucking A.
One of the reasons I opened this thread. Kingpin needs a sequel.
I wonder how a gritty reboot (as if there is another kind of reboot these days) of Kingpin would look like.

Seeing how today's gaming industry is only capable of churning out uninspired 6 hour long corridor shooters with a 2 weapon limit, a regenerating health system and cover mechanics I say let Blood, Kingpin and the other classic shooters rest in peace.

Well, if you put the "today's gaming industry" on the shoulders of an independendt studio who have just released their first game then perhaps you are right.

I, however, would love to see what said gaming studio could accomplish with more resources so I say bring on Hard Reset 2.

Yeah I agree, a company like Flying Wild Hog could possibly create a worthy successor for one of those classic FPS.

I'm not sure they would be able to purchase the IP for a game like Blood. In reality one of the big companies would probably get it and take the "safe route". (Maybe I'm a little bitter after seeing Fallout 3, X-Com FPS and Syndicate FPS)

edit: According to Wikipedia "Warner Bros. Entertainment" owns the Blood trademark.

You could see a midsized publisher pick up the license and have a small studio like FWH do it. I don't think Kingpin is a particularly major IP, but I might be wrong.

I want a new Redneck Rampage. :>

Though, same applies as the posts above. If regenerating health, 2 weapons carrylimit, etc. then it just sucks.

Well it seems the Duke Nukem 3D remake, Duke Nukem Reloaded is on ice for now.

A shame, with Forever being such a disappointment that would have been a proper 'sequel'.

It was a minor release, compared to Half-Life, most players would consider it a flawed gem. The 1920s gangland setting was very enjoyable. The element I enjoyed the most were the two thugs that assisted you in battle. Often they would run off on their own personal slaughter feast, also I thought he environments were great for their time.

Your 2 buddies...

A couple ideas on the topic:

1) Shadowrun First-Person RPG- Something along the lines of Fallout and Deus-Ex classic. No lame shooter online shit. I want to see a Cyberpunk city with next-gen graphics. The Deus-Ex remake dumbed down things too much though, so I am not happy about that. I am afraid a remake of Shadowrun would succumb to a similiar fate.....

2) Earthbound for Wii) I loved the classic Earthbound JRPG series for NES and SNES, but they are not as popular in the States. The humor was always really good for a RPG and it was set in modern times, so cars, aliens, psychic power and that sort of thing, as opposed to dragons and swords. Nintendo needs to support more of their titles like this I think.

To be perfectly honest though I would like to see more original titles than remakes or reboots. Confused

There is a sequel to Earthbound, it is called "Mother 3" it was released on the GBA and there is a fantastic fan translation of the entire game. It is absolutely MUST PLAY quality gaming.

Commander Keen would be nice to see make a comeback. I loved the stories and gameplay for those games. I wonder how well it would translate to a Mario 64 style gameplay.

I think a Bushido Blade sequel would kick ass if done right. Todays graphics and technology would be perfect to not only improve the visceral aspect of the game but the actual gameplay could be improved via more environmental interaction and improved physics.

Speaking of which, we won't be seeing a Beyond Good and Evil 2 until the next generation of consoles are out. So says Mr. Ancel.

I played Bushido Blade in the arcade, or something similar to it. It was fun pretending my childish years in kendo had any real impact in the game. Typing of the dead was also hilarious.

Alright, round 2.

Vagrant Story - given the gameplay mechanics of this game, this game will really benefit from a update in technology and more memory space. This game had a very ambiguous ending, so it's highly possible to make a sequel. It's hard to say why this game deserves a sequel (this is the point of thread, is it not?) , because this game was not meant for the casual gamer. You have to be fairly dedicated to do well in this game, and even then, one little screw up (like bringing the wrong weapon) can get you killed mighty quick. The biggest reason I liked the game (I seemed to have lost the patience to go at it again after losing my saves) was its uniqueness. It's an action puzzle adventure RPG with a fairly deep background story, and like Dragon Quarter, it encourages you to play it again by making certain story pieces unavailable during the first run. This game also had one of the most bizarre fusion system (list) that even beats Stella Deus or Rogue Galaxy. The combat system also makes your game unique to your play style. If you fight a lot of human enemies to level up, your weapons and armor will gain more anti-humanoid attributes. Of course, that's not all. There are elemental attributes (7 in all), enemy affinities (6 types of enemies), materials (7 total), and types of damage (3, excluding other special types). Therefore, you game will be very unique to your play style. I would really like to see a sequel made for this game.

Shining Force - I have no idea why Sega had never properly made a sequel to this series instead of all the mishmash based on the Shining title/world. Most of them mishmashes aren't very good. It's like the Arc the Lad series. That series sort of disintegrated into something like a platform for junior game makers to test all their crappy ideas or something. It's difficult to explain my enjoyment of the series (excluding 3 which was never properly ported over), but I suppose its biggest charm was the fact that it's a traditional top down tactical game series without too much fuss. The stories were predicable but it had some interesting twists to it. SF 1 had an unhappy ending which was fairly shocking. SF 2 had the fun twist that deviates from all the usual RPG tropes out there. The usual trope has you play as the good guy chosen by God (or whatever you want to call it) to defeat evil. SF 2 follows the trope faithfully until you met the God/Gods and he/she/it told you to f*ck yourselves. It was shocking and hilarious to hear that you have to clean up your own mess that you created in the first place. There are also a lot of fun little secrets in these games that had me keeps going back to them. The samurai, ninja, dominago egg, and etc for SF 1. The mithril pieces, secret class upgrades and etc for SF 2. They are still fun for me to play these days on the Sega Ultimate pack. I really think it deserves a proper sequel instead of all the strange crap that has polluted the Shining title.

Some pictures of the Duke Nukem Reloaded game that will never be:

Main Menu
Rocket launcher, shotgun and Pig Cops in-game
Another look at Duke

They claim it was "90% finished" but the opposite is true. Their single programmer has barely been able to patch a game together. There is nothing even remotely playable about their mulitiplayer demo, which was their main focus from the start. In over a year of development all they created was a ton of art assets and one map.

^^^^

Well that sucks.
I honestly had good hope for this project and I had hoped they would also make the fun filled Duke Caribbean Vacation, Duke it out in DC, and Duke Nuclear Winter.

I guess I gave some developer to much credit again.

+1 for bushido blade.

A DX11 Interstate '76 sequel, taking place in the 70s. Vehicle mounted machine guns on ultra cool muscle cars, funk music, afros, mountain+desert vistas, dust in the air.... I can taste it. Hmm, a thread titled "Great games that had shit sequels and sent the series into the crapper" might be fun.
I just finished 3 playthroughs of Resident Evil REMake on Dolphin. (I own it for the Wii/GC so it's legal, and gorgeous!) And even though I like RE4/5, the series really needs to go back to it's roots. I admit the old games' formula is pretty bland but even that would be a breath of fresh air in today's game catalogue. The combination of classic adventure game/limited inventory/cheap scares still stands up today... on the first playthrough. Some sort of randomness factor would be needed to keep subsequent playthroughs fresh. That "fresh" feeling is what makes me such a huge fan of RE, there is nothing like playing it the first time. Hell, the reason I booted it up on dolphin in the first place was because I was too scared to finish it 3 years ago on my Wii. And I'm still too much of a pussy to play Chris' game. Ha!

Yeah but I want a Earthbound on a major console again.
