I have killed much since the challenge started. Sadly Sulik bit the dust just outside Broken Hills, I made the mistake of leaving the car part in his inventory and couldn't go back to retrieve it. Thankfully the more important piece in Gecko was still there waiting to be claimed.
Marcus bit the dust inside Vault 15, a couple of critical bursts ripped him apart. But the journey went on. Goris was soon to join me, but died in his first fight, against the Masters Army, a rocket took him out.
After getting some combat armor from Vault 15 I made the hazardous journey to San Francisco, to get the Brotherhood quest to retrieve the Vertibird plans. (My gambling skills paid off nicely in New Reno, and I made a quick 500,000 caps. So buying stuff just became super easy).
On the journey to Navarro I encountered 2 Enclave patrols, and ran from both of them. One attack got me down to 6 hit points, but some super stimpaks saved the day. At the Enclave camp I grabbed the Vertibird plans, and the advanced power armor. The FOB required a bit more brutality.
After roaming the desert around the EPA (that's where the best encounters are) and building up my character I'm ready to take on the Enclave on the oil rig. My method will be a kill all approach, below is my character, ready for his destiny.
My resistances are pretty high, so I can take a lot damage, but the pulse rifle still hurts. I was very lucky to encounter a gang in a cave, and retrieved a few gauss rifles and pulse rifles from their bloody corpses.
EDIT: The Enclave is no more...
The game is too easy on normal, and once you get past the halfway point (NCR) the amount of goodies available spoils the game. The first half is gripping, the struggle from Arroyo to Vault City is so much fun, after that things get a little too easy. _________________

Nice build, but why did you take Gain Agility to get to 9?
Should've gone with Living Anatomy instead. The +5dmg helps with Bozar bursts and the boxing/kung fu matches a lot and you have the pre-reqs anyway. _________________

Gambling is a stupid skill and grinding will remove challenge. Also power armour(and before that combat armour) has always fundamentally broken fallout 1 and 2 with the high damage threshold.
Anyway you lost a ear and risked the luck increase? Also bonus move(the best perk) would have been better than Gain Agility.
Edit: Implants for Charisma lost. _________________

I did all the things in Gecko, went to the Cathedral, decided not to mess with the deathclaw. Got the car part and headed back to the Den, had som more tough fights.
Swung by New Reno for the V13 part and to look for weapons, but the good stock wasn't available and I was too low level to do missions for the families. Or whatever it is. Lil Jesus didn't want me anyway. Did Broken Hills, then went t NCR, bought light support weapon, don't dare to steal a Bozar. Cleared out Vault 15. Lots of scary things here. That p90 hit me for 108 damage... Made it with one hit point.
Bursted Darion first thing, then two guards, one guard burst killed the dog. Stepped back to let my guys in, and the remaining guards spent their turn chasing me, then stepped back in and shot the rest up.
Then did V13, stole combat armor and stuff, feels good man.
On my way back to Arroyo I get a Deathclaw random, five small ones, one big. Cassidy gets low on health and runs instead of stimming and I run for the car. Cassidy gets caught up by the big DC and dies with the p90 and I don't know what. I make it back to Arroyo to find Hakunin dying.
Time to pick up Marcus, a plasma rifle, maybe do the New Reno and Reddding things (I have frog left, and the wanamingos) and then park them in SF and go to Navarro and finish this shit. I want my Bozar.
Edit:
Went to San Fran, weapon chinaman had both Bozar and Gauss Rifle. Traded everything for those and 150 Gauss Ammo. Went to Navarro, got one patrol just two squares away from it, but got to choose not to have it!
But then had another one like 2mm from Navarro.
That's all she wrote. Gauss pistol guy got off four shots and I didn't get to move in between, and that makes me dead, no criticals or nothing. Never got to fire the Bozar. _________________

I have never posted before but have creeped on previous Iron Man threads. They inspired me to Iron Man Fallout 1/2 on my own. With this recent thread I'm excited to finally participate. I'm playing through with the restoration pack.
I decided to go with unarmed for some early game domination and max out energy weapons later. And of course so I can box in New Reno. Outdoorsman so I can avoid freak encounters early/mid game.
I crushed the scorpions as well as the Dunton brothers' heads securing some spiked knuckles. Sulik took quite the beating though.
Afterwards I decided to clear the rat infested mine and accidentally got cornered by Keeng Rat and was forced to kill him in a tough 1 on 1 fight since Sulik was distracted by pig rats.
I always feel obligated to kill Tubby.
A little boy in The Den's residential area told me that Flick was a mean man that made everyone give him stuff or he'd hurt them so I took him out.
Later that day I decided to help Lara and had the money to free Vic. As we were assaulting the church Vic shot me in the back twice with a .44 revolver and I was finished off by the guard Vic was aiming for.

I'll start up a new game when I'm done grieving. _________________ You see a ghoul wedged under your front bumper.

My sad story:
S6
P8
E8
C4
I8
A8
L5
Small guns, science, speech
I run through the temple of trials, and this is actually the first time i use the speech check on the guard, and he aggrees and runs off, hurray! I get out, repair the stupid well, trade all my healing powders for a piece of flint, and get my new awesome spear. I get training from both warriors in the tribe, and get my travel-money from grammie. I then clear out the garden, heroically, i end up almost dead 4hp left! I drag myself back to his tent, and he thanks me, and tips me about the healing powders. After i heal up, i feel better, and run over to another crybaby villager, to resque his dog. I dont wanna fight all the geckos, but I think sometimes they dont attack, and I can just run past. let's hope! and it works! I run the nice dog back, and now I feel even more questyer! Im nearing a level 3, I'm gonna have to deal with annoying-Kaga, so I figure, I can run back in there, fight a gecko or two, and get out!
I venture in!
Little do I know, this will be an epic battle with the geckos! I manage to meet them in small clusters, and I fight and fight long into the evening, I strike once, then run, usually miss and run, miss and run, in the course of this, they still get in all in all eight attacks on me, and when the last one finally dies, I am - - - severely wounded!
But I level up, and go to heal up during the night. The next two days I spend failing to heal. The third morning, I venture out! On my way to Klamath!
But there I meet: Annoying-Kaga.
He stops me! And barks in my face, about chosen this, betrayed that, must die! He stabs me with his spear, I fly like a ragdoll, stumble to my feet, and clumsily swing my spear at him. He doesnt even attack back, he stands and mocks me, as I waste a whole other chance, at a feeble swing towards him. He stabs me again, with his spear, I fly backwards, slide along the ground. He jumps after me, and stabs me a third time to be sure.
The end. _________________ "That's your excuse for everything, isn't it - being dead." |

Dirk reporting - I've been staying in a local, so called native, tribe. They really are quite a daft, yet lovable bunch, and have taken me for one of their own (though truth be told I was really only planning on staying but a week, alas here it is a couple months down the trail). A few of them even refer to me as close family.
All that aside though, they really are a stupid herd of humanity.
You see, this is what I'm referring to, in part - they have this giant structure which they apparently use to test people who are meant to perform important tasks for the tribe. They whip scorpians and garbage in here and that constitutes a hero in their eyes apparently, never mind the fact that this facility could house the entire popul...... you know what, fuck it, here I go.
A child could mash these large insects with a broom handle, this really shouldn't count for anything in anyone's eyes.
Such a tiresome time punching these miserable litting beastlings to death - have at thee impudent gigantic insect scum!
It is quite apparent that these people had not hand in building any of this. They're out there lashing flints to sticks and calling them spears and in here we have plumbing systems and ornate chasms. You would have to be stupid to keep a population out in the sun when this is right here, and yet that is what they are, stupid.
Even a Dirk can learn a thing or two while mashing insects. I shall reflect upon my learnings once I am out of this miserable place - besides a couple of the locals said they were going to teach me how to murder this with implements and fists, I might as well learn that first before trying to figure it out myself.
Explosives - more evidence of a higher intelligence inhabiting this place at one point. Whilst they're out there drawing lines in the dirt. THOSE ROCK STICKS AREN'T SPEARS YOU ASSHOLES! I hate these people.
Well, that seems to have done the trick - onwards and upwa... Ahhh fuck a spear trap - FUCK YOU PEOPLE!
I try and get the drop on this beast and this is what happens, fuck. Pinned between a wall and a scorpion with nowhere to go. Welcome to fistville my little poisonous friend.
YOU SHALL NOT PASS!
Well, that ended well for me. I think I shall drink this Doctor Caruthers Patented Poison Cure All - personally I think it's just ginger water with morphine.
Finally I've reached the exit - get me out of this scorpion hell hole. I just have to talk my way past this guy, though that shouldn't be hard, I know him, he's a fairly nice fellow.
Great.....I win a blue velour suit. Wait.... that's fucking awesome!
I told you this place is a shit hole. Why the fuck do these morons live outside?

Then I could actually stand a chance of winning. God, Iron Man Mode kicks my ass in Fallout 2. I guess I never realized how hard it really was. _________________

I suggest Arcanum Iron Man run as well. Though New Vegas might be interesting.
I also think Fallout 1 was easier/funnier as Iron Man than Fallout 2. In Fallout 2, you have to spend hours during the early game, which is not every difficult, to complete every little quest in order to gain up levels. After these (rather easy) hours, you reach the dangerous area of the worldmap (aka southern part) where every fight can basically end your quest. _________________

Alright lads, it has ended for me! In a good way, or was I killed? You'll see
My feelings about Iron Man runs on Fallout 2: as I said in my above post, it is a bit more tedious than for Fallout 1. In Fallout 2, you have to spend a lot of hours to do the exact same things and all the quests. If you don't do them, you are getting late in terms of levels and you might die faster when you arrive at the NCR. Problem is, we all have done them a lot of times, and you can't really do them in a new and fun way each time. So all of our runs contain the same first hours.
It was not the case in Fallout 1 where there weren't as many quests and you could chose different ways to solve them (f.e. Gizmo, Tandi...).
I am considering doing a second Iron Man run, but what's blocking me is these 5-6 early hours where I know I'll play exactly the same way.

So, here's my character. Sorry, all the screens are .bmp
I tried the Pistolero again. Although I know there's no real Alien Blaster in Fallout 2, my idea was to look for a PPK12 Gauss Pistol after having used a .223 Pistol during mid-game.
Did all the usual quests of Arroyo, Klamath, Den, Modoc, Vault City and Gecko. I won't bother giving many details as you all know how it is. Also, I did not put myself in troubles and avoided fights as much as possible - fortunately not a lot of quests need you to jump into battles.
- Oh Linda, that's quite a big penis isn't it?
- Sure Steve, it's damn big.
Sometimes, you get to feel just like your character:
That's basically when the game loses most of his appeal to me, when you leave the low-tier wasteland to meet a world of modern cities, of computers, of shiny armors, weapons and brand new buildings. But I carry on anyway.
I also had to oil a can, as the can says:
No worries, tincan, I'll oil you up!
Finally arriving in New Reno. Wasn't able to be hired by Mordinos or Wrights - maybe I just lacked Charisma. I did most of the Salvatores quests though, before slaying them all to get the laser pistoles, described as deathbringers by the other families and in fact just... useless weapons? They're worth a lot of money anyway.
This was where I was first happy to have 100% in Outdoorsman. That served me well during the whole game.
Talking about Outdoorsman, I had all the Monty Python encounters! Bridgekeepers, Knights, Vorpal rat... I never had this last one before, by the way. It was fun kiting the rat all around and looting the corpses thanks to my 10 AP and x2 Bonus Move.
At this point, Cassidy is dead. I can't remember when he died, maybe it was in Broken Hills. Sulik's waiting for me at his bar anyway, so I'll just get there when I'm in need of another follower.
I rushed Vault 13 shamelessly while working for Westin, just in time to watch that damn Hakunin sucker die. Time for Navarro. Recruited Goris instead of taking Sulik in my team again. I like that Deathclaw!
Thanks again, Outdoorsman.
Wasn't able to pretend I was a recruit, I wonder why. Had to kill him, then sneak inside the base to get the APA. After that, it was time to get the plans, thanks to my favourite technique - the "Hey Quincy! I'll check my explosives right next to you, ok? OH DAMN THEY EXPLODED, GOOD THAT I WAS IN APA HEH? Quincy? QUINCY?"
Of course no one attacked me, after all it was just an awful accident. Rest in peace, beloved Quincy!
Now really less afraid to die, I did the same technique to destroy the locker containing the pass in the Commander's office, then attacked him, killed him, took the pass, and ran away like a friggin coward with everyone shooting at me!
Har har, time to head back to San Francisco. On my way back, Outdoorsman fails and I stumble across an Anklav Patrol. Goris almost died, but I was able to drive away fast enough to avoid his death. Damn, if only I could've killed that dude with the Gauss Pistol!
Now that I'm rich, I decided to take the Brotherhood's YK42B. It's not a pistol, but heh, I can shoot three times with it in a row, so it's cool. I'm going to Redding to clean the Wanamingo Mine and help out the Sheriff. Something goes horribly wrong though, and as I am helping the locals to settle an argument at the Malamute Saloon, I suddenly find myself having to shoot everyone in town, including the Mayor and several children (Goris attacked them, not me, I swear!). I guess the Sheriff won't be too happy about that... Oh, heh, forgot I killed him too.
Goris has died in the process, Ascorti's guards got him. No worries, Sulik is still waiting for me at Cassidy's bar.
Oh wow, that dipshit won't even talk to me now? I'm at 400+ karma! I suppose it's because I've killed one or two children. Same for Marius. Fuck that shit. You want me to do that, Sulik? Fine, I'll kill Metzger and recruit VIC! Yeah, the useless asshole. It's him or Lenny now...
Exploring the game a bit more, completing a few more quests to gain some more levels. Taking lifegiver at level 12, bonus rate of fire at level 15.
Summon your monsters, Vats-Keeper, I'm not afraid!
Time for SF quests.
Floaters have 500% DR to Electrical damage, so my YK isn't damaging them, and guess who has the Gauss rifle? Vic, yep. I had to wait for him to kill all the floaters, and he missed all the time. Sucker.
Oh boy, I spent HOURS in that sub. I shamefully looked at walkthroughs on the internet, and they were quite unclear about what to do when you have 0% in speech, repair and science. After a few hours derping around I was able to plant an explosive on the torpedoes themselves and get out of that ghost ship. It looks great, btw.
Okay, that's it lads. On my way to the bottom of the oil rig I saw Mr President was a bit wounded, thought I would use a dozen of superstimpaks on him to heal his wounds. OH NOES, HE IS DEAD?! Well I guess he won't need his presidential access card any more then.
I'm not able to convince these fellas to fight for me. Doesn't matter, I got the presidential key.
Going to the computer, taking Vic back and giving him an APA. The computer... Won't take my card. The option is simply not there, although I have the pass in my inventory. I guess I don't have enough Science, or I didn't enable the dialog somewhere. FUCK. Time to kill Frank Who the, right?
Guys were right, I didn't last a minute. I was able to shoot him once, then he removed half of my life and of course the turrets also started to attack me. Izual, out.

I always had the feeling that Horrigan was kinda "cheap". All he does is using lots of health and plasma-minigun-thing.
Yeah! Thats a super tactical challenge! |
