back in the early 2000s, a "noob" was anybody who was new to forum or chat. if you were new to the mere concept of forum and chat, it meant you were also rather new to the internet. a "new beginner", a "noob"

today, there are no "noobs" in that sense. everybody knows internet, even old people, and the kids grow up with it.
at best, one can be "new to a specific forum", which doesnt really make you a noob in the traditional sense.
