The 4th piece of V13 concept art can be found on Interplay's forums. And here:
Chris Taylor remarks:One of the themes we will be dealing with is regrowth and rebuilding. After X amount of time (notice that sly dodge about the timeline), there is bound to be some amount of rebirth. We've had some long (LONG) discussions about how much of that we want to present, how much is natural and how much is man-made. Link: V13 Desert concept art thread on Interplay forums. |

| What's the deal with all the purple in these concept arts? That's really not very fallout-y. |

| And yea, I saw the other piece of fallout art on NMA... I really don't like the pinks and purples. Care to explain why you are going with concepts along those lines? Is the NE somehow escaped the worst of the bombs? And really, did the limitations of the fallout engine prevent you from using these colors or was that a design choice? |
The sky color in FO1 was only seen in a few cutscenes. We never really discussed the color of the sky, as the color of the ground was far more important thanks to our choice of camera angle in the engine. In fact, I cannot recall a single conversation regarding the sky color in FO1. The artists probably did, but it never came up in team meetings or amongst the designers.
Damnation Alley is a source that we used for inspiration for the original game.
We want each of the areas to feel a little more unique, and color palettes are a part of that uniqueness. We definitely don't want people seeing one palette the entire game. Major dullsville. Color is also used to impart emotions, and it's a tool that we'll be selectively using.
The skybox hasn't been decided on. We might have a common skybox for all areas, or specific skyboxes for each location, or smaller number of shared skyboxes.
We have a wall in the office covered with environment concept art; laid out in a similar manner as to the actual map of the game. When you look at the whole thing at once it's pretty cool.
Appreciate the discussion so far; thanks!

What is up with all the high tech equipment? And they don't even remotely resemble BOS tech either. I would think that most people would have basic armor, "homemade" type stuff, scavenged, etc., but this looks fresh off the mass production line. _________________

One of the biggest grips about the graphics in FO 1-2 was the lack of color. It was noted, but the wasteland still showed signs of growth and color. The 50's style primary colors were evident.
Then FO3 came out with even less color. Everything looked like it was dipped in chromium and had truck lining sprayed on it. It looked like shit, and everyone wanted "COLOR LIKE FO-1/2".
Now that we see some color people are bitching.
It's obvious that Bethesda didn't have canon and fitting in the old styles into their new FPS, and ignored the fans of the first 2.
It's also obvious that Herve is a POS and that MMO'S are not really fallout-savy in terms of story telling unless they are going the same route bio-ware is going with thier KOTOR MMO. (Yeah, full circle, and it's ironic and sad if you know history).
Also, in my opinion, MMOs suck.
But it's also apparent to get something done, the last thing you need to do is listen to everyone's bitching.
Great thing about FO-1 and 2 when they were about to be released noone had anything to complain about from the fan-base. _________________

I give up trying to believe they can make something of this. When (more like: if) it's released maybe my views will change. Only time will tell.
It looks like Borderlands, which is definitely not Fallout. _________________ ANKLAV PATROL!!!

Fallout-y or impressive...too early to tell. However, I'm thinking of cartography.
The purple sky in Graveyard wouldn't be out of place in the desert southwestern US. Aircraft graveyards in the region include:
Mojave (northwest of Edwards AFB...2 squares west and 1 north from The Hub)
Victorville (southeast of Edwards...2 squares east and 2 south from the Hub)
Phoenix-Goodyear (southwest Phoenix)
Roswell, New Mexico (here come the wanamingos)
And the big one, Davis Monthan near Tucson, AZ
...and that huge wrench must be held a super mutant. Must. I have to believe this.
The purple in Desert seems like more of an atmospheric effect. Compared to the Level-of-Detail falloff in FO3, "purple haze" looks lovely. And there's that nice abandoned-ore-mill look (or maybe just a concrete batch plant). Call me a mine fanboy, but any Fallout in the western US needs more mines. Sans wanamingos, please.
I've seen comments on the fan art about the location of V13 being unknown, or even on the east coast. I have to admit I haven't been following V13, but is there a good reason (or several) to think it's not in the west? Those Monument Valley buttes and cacti in Desert just can't be the Alleghenies. _________________ Nuclear Holocausts: Atomic War in Fiction by Paul Brians. |

With every passing day, the Fallout series are getting more and more raped.
Well, at least we have an active modding community. _________________ If Bethesda ever make a second Fallout game it should be named "Fallout 3 2" instead of "Fallout 4".

I wish you actually read about the concept art, rather than act like mindless fanboys (the likes of Fo3 fanboys) and deride everything you see just because you don't like the first look.
Chris Taylor (hint: one of the lead designers of Fallout fucking One) has said that these aren't final concept arts, but early , exploratory ones.
Christ, you're every bit as jaded and mindless as Fallout 3 fanboys. _________________ My Call of Pripyat Complete English Translation

This.
Seriously, guys, wtf?
Yeah, that concept art is a bit too bright and full of colors (just too much like a comic, Borderlands...), that's for sure. But did you really think a Fallout MMO would lack colors?
People would be bored after a very short amount of time.
Also, concept art in many cases simply is not what will be reached in the end. Just look at Epic Mickey
I certainly won't say a word about the style until I finally see a real screenshot. _________________ "Aren't you supposed to work?" "Compiling."

Incorrect. Fallout 1 had heavy feedback from Wasteland fans, and the forums were a mess of Fallout fanboys during Fallout 2's development. _________________
