Hi, I'm new.
Can't seem to save either.
What I have done so far:
1. Installed fo2 with the largest install option (version 1.00)
2. Started the game once to make sure it worked
3. Installed the newest Restoration Pack + newest patch for it
4. Started the game, changed resolution, started playing
Running default XP SP3 as administrator. Game is installed to a different hard drive than the OS. (F:\games\Fallout2)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
edit.
How big is master.dat in the main game folder supposed to be? Mine is 317 megabytes. Going to try the manual patching described in previous page now. |

Exact size depend on filesystem of your hard drive but your master.dat file after RP 2.x install must be little bigger then the original. _________________ TM |

I can't save game too. I run Fallout 2 RP 2.1.2b in Wine (1.3.27) on Linux (Debian Squeeze x86). I managed to solve several problems, such as screen bottom cut off, mouse lag over map part of screen, resolution problems, and now i'm stuck in this.
On previous page there is info that this problem is coused by bad patching master.dat. I tried patching this by running in winecmd batch_work/f2.bat - not worked.
Then I tried running in winecmd:
| Code: |
remove_new_npcs.bat
new_npcs.bat
remove_bad_protos.bat
add_fixed_protos.bat |
Then I tried Mirr's method from previous page and still nothing.
Next step was moving batch_work folder with master.dat aboard on comp with Xp, running f2.bat there and then moving back to linux.
In middletime i changed SAVEGAME folder to savegame, and back again.
When i trying to save at second slot, in savegame folder appears SLOT02, but still there is error after saving and I cant load - it looks like there is no game saved.
I'm running out of ideas |

Alright, my turn to have this problem, on windows XP.
Surprisingly, my whole HDD seems to be read-only. Was it like that already, or did it change recently? No clue. When I change it, it reverts instantly to read-only.
I don't know if this read-only stuff is important or linked with the save problem.
Another surprising thing is that when I try to save in a slot, it creates a folder for this slot in "SAVEGAME", and this folder contains "proto" (which contains "critters" and "items" folders). Strange.
Well if anyone has any idea... I'd be glad _________________

Alright, update on my case.
It seems the RP was messing with the saves in some way. Vanilla game could work. Also RP screen changes used to break my graphic drivers, which wouldn't help.
The read-only stuff was indeed not at all related to this problem. I can save my game now, though every folders are still read-only (and probably always were!).
I bought (again) a fresh copy of Fallout 2 on GOG and was able to play normally with RP. Don't know what the problem was, but it's solved now. _________________
