"The Carmageddon brand has been reacquired by the team that developed the original PC titles Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now. Stainless Games today announced that a new title is in early development, called ‘Carmageddon: Reincarnation’."

http://www.carmageddon.com/home

I remember buying the first two Carmageddon games and loved them both to death.

The sense of freedom I got when playing those games was something I never experienced before in a 'racing' game.

Some nostalgia for the old folks:

My friend loves this games, sanctifying them. I though they were crap, since my friend's taste in games and criteria is...well, lame.

Well, maybe this is a first good game on his list.

well everyone has at least once luck.

Though ... I have the the new carmageddon will not be in any shape or form like the first 2 games which have been the only good ones anyway. Because one idea of Carmageddon was it to drive over people. So the worst thing that they could do is making the game "kidz friendly".

Great fucking games. I used to genuinely enjoy playing them. The car battles and the whole time mechanic made for some simple but really fun gameplay. I hope they keep them exactly the same without some silly ass "evolution" of the series with a dramatic campaign or some other dumb shit.

By the way, wasn't there a game called Zombie Drive or something that's basically Carmageddon with a condom on? Anyone play it? Was it any good?

From what I recall, it is a good game. I played it a couple of times at my friend's.

Good game, but the controls were a bit clunky. Also, most of the missions were pretty much the same - go from place A to place B, pick up people on your way and smash/shoot/nuke/set on fire zombie (which number hundreds). Gets a bit repetitive, but car upgrades are awesome, so they bring a bit of diversity to the game.

The thing I probably liked the most is the graphics. There are many zombies that leave many bloody, decapitated corpses after your sadistic nature erupts to the surface. Surrounding area is also done nicely.

You should try the game (or better, try the demo - I think there is a one). My memory is vague, but this game left a good impression on me, that's the least I remember.

I never played the second game but the first Carmageddon was, frankly, quite bad. There were three ways to win a race:
1-killing all the humans on the track while having the highest bodycount
2-completeing all the laps
3-destroying all the opponents
The first way simply wasn't feasible, there were too many pedestrians often hidden in absurd places.
The second way was boring because the car controlled like a brick with flat tires on ice and the opponents AI sucked (they were more interested in hitting you).
The third way was limited because you had no weapons.

And yet...it was fun somehow. Exploring the expansive maps, killing pedestrians with "style", using the bizarre power-ups... One of those games that is more of the sum of its parts, but I don't know if a new game can recapture that feeling.

Carmageddon was uterlly midless and so corny that actually made the game friggin' awsome.
The map design is very good, something to be studied by game companies.

When the sequel came out I had a shock listen Iron Maiden "Be Quick or Be Dead", it wasn't common to include band's songs in a game.

And it's banned in my country because "it teach bad behaviour to drivers". Shocked

I don't believe I have ever finished a race by completing laps. I remember it as more of a destruction derby type game with a time limit, refilled by driving over pedestrians or ramming opponents. I thought that the combo of those simple things was done JUST right. Also, the levels were freaking insane.

jup carmageddon went up and down with the layout of the levels. And most levels have been awesome. Somewhat like a big sand box and less then a real racing game. And god. The game had so MUCH to explore on the maps geting crazy and strange stuff. Like electro bolts, a huge morning star as tail for your car (with hilarious physics), coil springs which let your car jump around or some coils you can activate to push the "People" away. And a lot of more awesome stuff. And it also had for such an old game a pretty neat damage model. To mention many cars to drive which all felt different, or most of them at least.

Oh come on what's not to like?

Too much freedom?
Too much variety?
Too many tracks?
Too much silly violence?
Too many cars?
Too many great characters?
Too much over the top parody?
Too much great music?
Too much fun?
...

I love Carmageddon 2. Unfortunately it doesn't seem playable on modern machines without using CPUkiller (piece of shit that it is), otherwise the clock runs down 4-5x faster than it should, making races pretty much impossible.

I've got a strong craving for some Carmageddon 2 now. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix the timer without cpukiller?

I can't name names, but I seem to remember there being similar programs around that didn't suck quite so bad. Find one of those, maybe?

Sorry, I know that's not much of a help. I had one I used to use to play Commodore 64 roms, and it never gave me any problems at all, but I can't remember what it was called.

Go here and download the correct patches for whatever version of C2 you have installed: http://rr2000.toshiba-3.com/R4/PC.htm

Then use one of the Glide Wrappers such as dgvoodoo or zeckensack's Glide wrapper.

The game is still buggy as hell and frequently crashes no matter what you do.

I play Carmageddon 2 with dgvoodoo (version 1.40+) on 1360x768 resolution, runs perfectly. Didn't have a single crash either.

Dunno, man. That friend of mine got the ups for games like TMNT (the new ones). You get the picture...

Can you post a screenshot of your dgvoodoo setup? I seem to have the most problems with that one randomly crashing either immediately after start or at the end of a race.

Edit... I think I got it after switching both carma2.exe and carm2_hw.exe to windows 95 compatibility mode.

Sorry for being late, I was getting stoned and drunk on beer (fucking unemployment bros), but I'll post this anyway in case it might help someone else.

I didn't need to use any compatibility modes either. This is on XP.

If anyone is interested in playing Carmageddon TDR (Carma 3) I recommend downloading the 'Max pack' it allows users to pick higher resolutions, fixes many bugs and contains 127 (!) extra cars.

http://www.gamefront.com/files/6225634/TDR2000-MAX-Pack-v1.14f

If you are still having trouble running Carma 1, 2 or 3 check out the new official forum it contains many good advice on how to get these beauties to run flawless on modern computers.

Ha, I was using the latest beta release of dgvoodoo. No wonder it was bugging out.

Oh yeah, don't forget to download the Nosebleed Pack with TDR2000 http://rr2000.toshiba-3.com/R4/PC/NBP.exe

It was the official expansion pack only released in Britain. Included are a few more maps, cars, and powerups. The 1920s track is freakin huge and worth the download alone. I forget if the fan made MAX pack comes with the extra tracks.

The max pack also includes the nosebleed patch (The original nosebleed didn't like 64 bit machines)
