1) Stay away from opiates.
2) Quit smoking tobacco. *
3) Read a fairly long list of books. Tolstoy!
4) Fuck the girl who works in my local post office.
5) Attain a chess Elo rating of 1700 whilst maintaing my Tallike style of atypical, and somewhat dubious sacrifices.
6) Run a 5 minute mile (I once ran a 4:22 mile, four years of morphine, smoking and laziness have set me back a fair bit).
* Tobacco is indeed worse than cannabis, or at least commercial tobacco is. By far the worst component of cigarette smoke is the radioisotope, Radium 226 (which decays into Lead and Pollonium 210, both of which are very nasty alpha emitters with poor mucous solubility). The Radium probably comes from fertilizers, although I can't substantiate that at present.
Tobacco also combusts at a higher temp, which compounds the above problem by desicating and burning the upper respitory tract, hence inducing miotosis to repair the damaged tissue. Hint: cell division + alpha emmiters = transcription errors and other problems. _________________ "A German Field Marshal does not commit suicide with a pair of scissors!" |

Radium is actually something that the tobacco plant seems to draw naturally from the air and soil for some reason. Radium and Polonium are present even in organically grown, unprocessed leaf tobacco. _________________

That's one of the reasons it looks so cool.
Smoking makes you look like a badass who doesn't care if his life is shortened by a couple of years, because you're probably going to die young anyways from doing something badass. |

Not according to Richwiz's link

Ah, didn't know that, though it makes a lot of sense. I would guess the Radium comes from small quantities of uranite in the soil, and as it's chemically pretty similar to magnesium and/or calcium, is taken up by 'accident'.[/quote] _________________ "A German Field Marshal does not commit suicide with a pair of scissors!" |

My wife and I were going to build a house, but we decided it'd be easier to build half of one instead. So we bought half of one.
Now I have to build the other half this year. I'm not sure it counts as a resolution if it absolutely has to get done. Resolutions are supposed to be optional, I think. Meh. _________________ "It is pitch dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue." -Zork

I don't really know how homes work, but how the hell do you buy half a house? Was it just a small house you plan on adding to later or some kind of prefab thing that you'll expand as time goes by?
I fucking hate the world and everyone in it but 2am tonight will be two weeks smoke free. Still haven't picked up a book yet but this is requires a bit more attention and concentration at the moment I think _________________

Well, it used to be a whole house. Then the water heater caught fire (no, really). So, they stripped out everything that could hold a persisting smell of smoke, and it's just been sitting empty for a few years. Basically it's a shell, with no insulation, drywall, wiring, etc. The roof and floor are solid, and the exterior is fine. Just no guts.
Sort of a choose-your-own-adventure house. But it's sitting on a quarter of a city block of fenced in yard, so we could make our money back even if we just knocked it down and split the place up. I'd rather fix it up though. Lots of potential. _________________ "It is pitch dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue." -Zork

Wow, never heard of anything like that. Good luck and good job, real estate is a great investment. My grandparents went from poor nomadic hippies to retired by age 40 because of real estate _________________

We'll see, I guess. Last time it appraised before the fire it was 50k, which was 2005, I think. We got it for 20k.
Fuck if I know what the real estate market is going to do in the next ten years, but I don't really care, as long as we break even. I'm retired with a basic pension and bennies at 34, so fixing up the house gives me something to do while I decide whether to go to college or not. _________________ "It is pitch dark.
