I've been playing the Age of Decadence demo a bit since it came out last week, and thought it would fun to do a little LP of one of the main story lines in the demo.
My most recent play-through was with a Mercenary, who joined the Imperial Guards, and generally murdered as many people as possible. I focused my skills on Block, Axes, Crafting, and Critical Strike (in that priority), got all the way to the final fight (which I couldn't beat) and had a bodycount of 50+ near the end.
I thought it'd be fun to try a slightly different murdering SOB, trying my best to pick a fight with everyone I meet, and see how far I can get without dying.

Not very fucking far.
The stats for Murder Man v2 are as follows:

Not very different from my original build. Only change is taking 1 point from Dex to put in Str, since I plan to use max 9 dex armors and swords instead of axes. Axes have +1 vs DR and a chance to break shields, while swords have increased critical hit chance, and the way I was getting mauled by crits all fucking time with v1, I figure it's time to fight back. The extra point in Str will outweigh the larger damage reduction.
Focused all my starting skill points on block to improve survival.
The game starts as you meet a trader that you're supposed to guard:

Nothing to do here but "Continue"
"Right away, master." Go to the Trader's room.
"You will not be disturbed, master." Stand guard.
I'm professional as fuck. No one is getting in this joint.

Told you no one was getting in here.
Not sure what happens if you fail the perception check. I mean, my perception is pretty meh, so you *really* gotta suck to fail here. Seeing as how AoD is all about choice and consequence, something is bound to be different if your PE sucks
The only answer available is "i dunno lol ¯\(°_o)/¯"

Suddenly, some asshole climbs in through the window, ruining my boast that no one was getting in here. There doesn't seem to be any way to prevent the merchant from being murdered. Oh well. That's what you get for pissing off the merchant guild I guess.
Since we've made it our mission to murder everything, we attack the assassin!
COMBAT MODE!
Here's the combat mode. HP and AP should be clearly visible in these screenshots, but I'll provide feedback from the textbox to show what's happening:
So, yeah.
What's happening is that the assassin fucking dodges all the time and I don't block nearly as much as I would like, giving him lots of time to chip away at my health and delivering annoying attribute-lowering critical hits all the fucking time.
3 HP.

P.S.:
I might do a proper non-ironman LP some time in the coming weeks, but I gotta go record a 7" with the band next week, and try not to fail my analytical mathematics exam in 2 weeks, so no promises. _________________

When you are hired to guard someone for the night don't go to sleep. First thing you do if you pick merc is have a brainfart and game tries to punish you for something it decided your character will do. _________________
For combat builds in the current version, CHA and CON are your dump stats. Get STR to 10, and decent PER, INT and DEX. (INT governs skill points, which you'll need). Use small, fast weapons + fast attack, and you'll dish out 20-30 damage per turn.
After that, Crafting is a must for a succesful combat build (get a hardened Praetorian / Imperial armor ASAP by smelting loot).

CON is a dump stat?
How the hell do you survive the mining camp with only 30 HP? _________________
