So with a victory in the Fallout Iron man from Dead Guy and a effective victory from Sander, which in it's own way was awesome(dead guy described it as like Bruce Willis in Armageddon) , it seems the Fallout challenge is winding down. Which means it the prefect time to start the Fallout 2 Challenge. Fallout 2, more content, better follower system and a little less focused. With experience from Fallout Iron Man runs and more low-mid content will this mean more chance at success or more opportunity for failure?
Fallout 2 Restoration Project is allowed and the good and the bad that comes with that.
The Fallout Iron Man Challenge is still open if you want to continue that.
Start time is Friday the 27th of April 12:00 GMT. There is no time limit to join this Challenge, the starting time is just to give people some time to get ready. Also play at whatever pace you feel like.
Iron man rules:
1. Load on start, save on exit. That is basically how you save and load your game. You can also have a running save to protect against crashes.
2. Dead is dead. If you die in your game you really shouldn't reload a earlier save and play a non iron man run from there. This is really more of highly recommend suggestion rather than a rule rule. This is so there is a genuine risk when you play and the longer you play the more you risk.
Have a look at the Fallout Iron Man Challenge to see how people posted their runs. _________________

This is gonna be hard. And we all like hard things.

Yeah I wonder about that too.
Restoration Project is allowed? Surprising, I have to say. But, why not. Problem is if we don't all play with same weapon balance for example (can't remember if RP modifies it a lot or not). _________________

can we not make a rule about hard/not hard?
your gonna die just as easily anyway, come on. take it from an "easy"-player, i die all the fuckin time, hence i save so often.
more difficulty, imho, makes the game more annoying, and nothing else. not more challenging, not more immersive, and not more interesting - only more annoying _________________ "That's your excuse for everything, isn't it - being dead." |

Yeah I think we should unify/uniform (english?) the rules a bit. It's funnier if we all play the same game, right?
Pixote: as I said on the other topic... To me setting the difficulty higher is only modifying Fallout 2 into something else. I don't say it's bad, but maybe it's not fitting really well for a Iron Man run. We should play the game as it's meant to be played imho. _________________

Maybe you guys should play as NPCs instead.
Stop whining about details, this isn't a comptetition. It's for fun. _________________

This is going to be insane. There's so much content in this game, and so much opportunity to die gruesome deaths.
I wonder how many players will get to the end, only to die at the hands of Frank Horrigan.

This. Play it the way you like to play it. _________________ No Mutants Allowed, your Fallout resource - Fallout 3 modding

double this
triple this: in my battle with frank horrigan i load the game _many times_, due to his awesome brutality
but i am allready nervously contemplating clearing out the mariposa base, or unfortunate criticals from all the robots in the sierra base
not to mention ill-prepared battles with either mafiosos of new reno, or the raiders hideout
the world of fallout 2 is mostly safe, none of these surprise-barfights and stuff, but the dangerous places there are really truly dangerous _________________ "That's your excuse for everything, isn't it - being dead." |

I am in the middle of a (regular) replay of F2 so I'm not sure if I'll find it in me to go through it all again when my other game isn't completed yet...
I can tell you that the Military Base and Sierra are going to fuck people up if they venture there too soon... _________________ Yamu: "There's a gentle-but-implacable authority that stems from over-hyphenation which is too-often under-appreciated.

Playing Fallout three times in a row was fun, if just for the fact that I hadn't played it in years. Fallout 2 will likely become tedious after the first death. So much more content to play through. A speed run, maybe. But the chances to survive without reloading are probably close to zero. _________________

I may actually try this one. I predict an early and gruesome death. _________________

Can't wait. Think I may use guns this time, exciting as the chance to fight enclave patrols and fire geckos is. _________________ "A German Field Marshal does not commit suicide with a pair of scissors!" |

At least there's a bigger pool to pick from in 2, so you can get new ones. Granted, several are just shit, but you've got Marcus and Goris to pick up replacing Sulik and Cassidy if necessary. Lenny and Myron, anyone? _________________

No need to wait for Enclave Patrols to die. Random encounters near Reno will kill a lot of us! _________________

So is the "Hold A and run off the map rinse repeat" trick considered cheating? Otherwise I see no chance for anyone actually beating the game without dying once. Even then, the chances of surviving Horrigan are slim. Maybe we should consider destroying the Enclave a success.
I'll probably try a "Powerarmor in 5 minutes" Navarro run. _________________
