|

We don't regularly cover Dead State, zombie apocalypse mostly being outside our scope, but it's a promising, turn-based RPG project, with a more novel approach to the zombie narrative, a strong focus on survival over zombie-killing. And you can now help make it happen on Kickstarter.Dead State is a compelling, high-tension RPG set at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. As society is beginning to fall apart, the player must organize allies, fortify a shelter, scout for food and supplies, and make uncertain alliances, attempting to hold together a group as humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. And although the zombies lurk as an ever present threat, the biggest obstacle to the player may just be other humans with the same goal: survival at any cost.
Interact with dozens of characters in over 10,000 lines of branching dialogue that affect gameplay, story outcomes, and multiple endings. Explore multiple surrounding towns and areas to find supplies and recruit allies. Fight the living and the dead in strategic turn-based combat. Upgrade your shelter to provide new ways of keeping morale high, creating new weapons and armor, and keeping the dead out. Your leadership will mean life or undeath for the survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
We are so sick of most zombie games. Yes, we get it, killing zombies is fun. But that’s not what the zombie genre is about. It’s about survival, first and foremost – the struggle of the survivors faced with adapting to a world that has succumbed to an unfathomable event.
This is your story – you’re the leader and it’s up to you to force the lucky, the traumatized, and the selfish to work together for weeks and months after society has collapsed. Zombies are the least of your problems – you need to keep morale high, mouths fed, and your shelter safe. You will lose people. You will make enemies. You will have to make tough decisions. And you might not make it.
-A PC RPG with stats, skills, and perks that make a huge difference on your character’s abilities.
-Dozens of characters with branching, reactive dialogue, and randomized events that unfold over months of in-game time – player decisions and the death of loved ones can change relationships drastically.
-Turn-based combat where line-of-sight and noise affect whether you are spotted or not, making for extremely tense encounters.
-Base-building mechanics featuring multiple upgrades, NPC jobs, and item manufacturing.
-Scavenging mechanics that require players to find supplies, weapons, armor, and other items to keep their allies fed and alive.
-A morale system that factors in player success/failure, allies’ faith in the player, and the overall strength of the shelter.
-Crisis Event dialogues that factor in political maneuvering and making difficult choices that affect your whole shelter.
-Reactive AI that responds realistically to combat situations, player commands, and the state of panic from the presence of zombies. |

I will enjoy this if it comes out. It does look to show promise. The team did completely halt development until Kickstarter picked up momentum. _________________

Y'know, a bit off topic, but what do you think would happen if you meshed Fallout and Pokemon's game mechanics together?
Now that would be one badass Indie game.
Also, I agree Surf, the only good shit with zombies are B-movies, the Walking Dead, and PvZ. |

The survival aspect is what I like. I actually had a game idea like this a long time ago. Zombies have been done to death, but more focus on the humans is always welcomed. That is why Walking
Dead is so popular. _________________

No, development is moving slower than expected so they want a full team so they can release before 2014. |

Isn't there a flash version of this already out there? I remember to have played something like this, recomended by Brother None. It was pretty neat.
EDIT: my bad, the game is called Rebuild. But it's the very same idea, even this
is in the game (it is VERY similar, at least). _________________

I read a post from them on Codex a while back. I do believe they mentioned how all work halted for some time, until the Kickstarter craze started up. Then they decided to utilize Kickstarter to actually fund the game. I would look for it, but I don't really feel like it.
Makenshi, a similar online game is also out called Urban Dead, or something like that. It seems that it is a popular idea. Dead State is much more complex from what I gather though. _________________

Meh, I enjoyed the Walking Dead, especially the second season because there were barely any Zombies to talk of to. It was more a drama than a real zombie series. The first season was also ok in Atlanta, when they more had to handle the actual inter-social relationships than the walkers.
Dead State goes in a similar direction, 's why I like it. It also has a the same engine as Age of Decadence, and that is one hell of a nice game already (albeit I dislike the setting). Also, Brian is a seasoned writer in the industry and his stuff in V:tMB was brilliant, Annie also is not a newbie to this stuff. Oscar (Elhoim) did and does work on AoD too so I am sure the game will come out rocksolid. All the power to these boys and girls, imo. _________________

reminds me to this strange browser game where you had to exactly do the same, get a base and explore the town which was infested with zombis.
Pretty funny and addicting for such a small browser game. |

Zombies, eh? Been there, done that, but always willing to return.
Kinda like Fallout + Zombies - Ghouls - Nuclear War = Dead State. |
