I won't say that Italy deservedly won, but Germany deservedly lost.
Defense was horrible, and why the hell did they put Gomez and Podolski up front? They fucked up constantly.
Second half was pretty good, but still not enough.
Sad. _________________

Well well, the first real surprise of the Euro. Me and most of my Euro-watching friends were scratching our head in utter disbelief. Italy played well, but I also think it was especially germany that did not play to there level. Shame, it really looked like they had a shot this time.
Rooting for italy in the finals myself, because they put on a good show, and also because fuck Spain. _________________ Shepard: Conrad... if you have a shrine to me, I'm going to be upset.

Do you hate football? How could you be for that awful, ugly anti-football over the frivolous play of the Italians?
Talk about something I never thought I'd be saying ever. |
What the hell? The Spanish put on a football clinic every time they are on the field. Sadly it's a boring clinic. If you call it anti-football because it's a snoozefest as compared to attacking styles, well then I'm sorry. I also dislike the Italians. I would honestly rather have Iran's soccer team beat the Spanish. Anyone BUT Italy. _________________

Not really. They put on a quick-passing, tiki-taki clinic. But a football clinic in general? Not at all.
What they do extremely well is retain possession. But retaining possession is not the same as playing good football, and most certainly not the same as putting on a clinic. Let's not forget that they tied Italy, only barely managed to qualify for the knockout stage (they really struggled against Croatia and were fortunate to win), and had to beat Portugal on penalties. Does that sound like the result of a 'clinic' to you? _________________ No Mutants Allowed, your Fallout resource - Fallout 3 modding

Latin football continues to be the most successful football, teams like Germany and Holland will never have the tactical ability or the technical skills of Latin teams... Yesterday was another good example of that.
I always smile whenever I hear those people that keep saying Germany are the masters of football and will be number one, they always say this at the start of every euro and wc and then... |

There's so much wrong with this post. Spain's technical skills and tactical ability are derived entirely from the Dutch method of play (focus on possession, quick pressing, triangles everywhere). Germany's technical ability isn't in any way inferior to Spain's or Italy's since they overhauled their youth system some eight years ago, and Holland has always been renowned for its technical and tactical football. Lumping Italy and Spain in the same technical and tactical group is just beyond retarded, especially if you take a more historic view of football (ever hear of catenaccio, or watch any Italian team play before 2010?)
Finally, Germany has won 3 World Cups, finished 2nd in three more, won 3 Euros and finished second in 3 more. That's a whole lot more than Spain has done throughout its history. So yeah, teams like Germany and Holland 'will never' have the tactical ability or technical skills of Latin teams? Hahahahahahahahahaha bullshit. _________________ No Mutants Allowed, your Fallout resource - Fallout 3 modding

Since the unification they only won 1996 euro against the Czechs, but jeah a lot of "almost"
On the other hand this Spain team is holding the world and euro cup, that never happened before. |

France '98-'00.
I'm not arguing this Spain team hasn't done something quite exceptional the past six years. They have. But the idea that what they've done somehow flows inherently from 'latin' football and non-latin countries can't reproduce it is silly. _________________ No Mutants Allowed, your Fallout resource - Fallout 3 modding

My bad.
I think he is pointing out that some ethnicities excel in some sports categories like those ethiopians in marathons, but that is irrelevant in a team based competition. |

They will go down in history as one of the best national sides, ever. _________________

Is that a contradiction to what he said? Of course they will, it's still boring anti-football. |

That's what some people think, maybe that's the common opinion in the English speaking media or certain countries but not everyone thinks the same.
Me and quite a few people I know consider the way the Dutch play to be too thuggish, something that I bet you don't.
Aesthetic appreciation in football is entirely subjective, I think the only objective concern should be the one which positively affects the final score. |

Well, nevermind... not looking promising for Italy. I hope Cassano gets to plant one in, loving him lately.
Also, that first goal was just too epic. |

Spain helped make up a lot of its image from the last WC and this Euro so far with this one match. This was much, much better than what we've seen from them since Euro 2008, and they didn't start playing their destructive brand until now, the final 10 minutes.

Of course it is. A blind bat could see that. But it worked for a long time, just like Spain's anti-football works for it.

That's just an appeal to weakness. They have been playing possession football for years. That is objective, not subjective. If you really want to claim possession-based, 1-0 wins are aesthetically pleasing, then good luck to you.

| A bit of a tragic sight this game. I started feeling bad for Italy after the third goal. Spain deserved the win though. |
