    It's better to have gone through KOTOR 1 if only to get the context (and the motivations of certain characters). That said, at least you can choose who Revan was (gender & alignment).

    Let's rephrase then. Is reading the plot overview all that inferior to playing it outright. Because it looks terribad and I'll rather get fed up of the gameplay on the better of the two.

    Like with almost every sequel in history yes playing, watching, reading it's predecessor(s) will almost always cause more enjoyment for the sequel.

    Hard to say tbh. Some of the jokes in KOTOR 2 require you to have interacted with some of the characters in KOTOR 1 (if only to make you aware how annoying some of the latter's characters were and to make the jokes at their expense all the more hilarious).

    I don't think it's that much of a requirement, you're not meeting terribly many characters of Kotor 1 and while it's nice to know some of the references, you can as well read about Revan and what he did online. It's nice to know some of the details, but it's not a requirement in my opinion.
