And what I mean by Greener mod, I mean something like Vurts' mods for Fallout 3 and New Vegas:

I'm not saying neccessarily total greenery, after all, the northeast is in a middle of a massive drought, but adding some color to an other wise dead looking world. Those trees in particular look like kindling ready to go off.

I personally, would play the shit out of that kind of mod. I'd be a real joy.

This was kinda done back in 2006. It was a simple tile replacement mod (desert for grass). I can't find it on the nets now as it is so old (check the repo).

It looked ugly and no one used it.

SouthernCalifornia is, but Northern California, far from it.

I tried that mod. It's not so much ugly as unfinished. There's also a problem trees now block view and thus looting possibilties.

Well let me ask another question: is there a place where I could ask someone to make a green mod? With See-through trees and green but still drought stricken kinda way?

Probably not. It's a lot work to make new graphics, especially if they should look good.

Making trees see-through is the smallest issue, though, and just requires a simple proto flag change.

Northern California is a bit wetter than southern California, but both are green during the wet season and yellow / brown during the dry season. This means you will see very lush grasses and flowering plants after the first rain and by April/May they will dry up into scratchy weeds. Some places have lots of sage brush, yuccas, or Joshua trees. There is very little true desert in California. It is mostly semi-arid or dry-summer subtropical.

Many varieties of trees can grow in California with very little additional watering, but they will mostly be growing either in dry river beds or at higher altitudes. Of coarse there are more drought-tolerant varieties of tree that grow just fine in dryer soils: oak, cottonwood, juniper, tobacco trees, etc.

I did not know that about So Cal. I've only been there once and was in the desert. The cities looked green enough but I figured that was artificial/being pulled from upstate.

But I'd be happy a drought-y looking landscape with greenish scrub and grass with green trees, cause I know you can't do a simple re-texture and get both Oregon and Nevada looking realistic. Because with that retexture, it's a little too green, but Klamath, the Den, San Fransisco, the Abbey and probably Vault City look great, but Reno, Golgotha, the Stables, SAD and probably Shady Sands don't have the right look anymore.

On balance I'd be happy with the retexturing if it was complete with the broken sidewalks and under the stone heads and around the wells. Still even incomplete, I'm happy to play it even though there is a lot of opportunity cost when a raider dies behind a tree.
