GameSpot UK offers a video interview with Bethesda in their Start/Select feature, starting around 8:30, with Pete Hines. They discuss the start, plot, Dogmeat, good characters can't recruit evil NPCs, that kind of stuff. Including mentioning perception influences how well you see other people, but bulky armor/helmet lowers that perception.

    Thanks Vault 13.

Eheh, seems like they drawn out some inspiration from troika: psychic hireable NPCs that know your (artifitial) alignment on the first second they meet you.

Yeah...At least there won't be these buggering psychic guards able to tell whether your horse is stolen or not anymore.

    New announcement from Beth:

Huge pink mutated horses you can ride to shorten traveling distance! Since you know, all the cars are just for purty explosions.

How about those psychics from Fallout who could tell if you killed a child on the other side of the world?

It's based more or less on your own imagination, since you can assume that word spread about your deeds, it's been that way since Ultima IV and its virtue system.

Because I remember Todd or Pete saying in an interview that since the game takes place in the wastelands, stealing and murdering people won't have the same consequences at all as in Oblivion, the world being a much more savage place than Cyrodil. I guess that you are right though, it could mean the exact opposite of what I think it means ( that there will be no authorities to prevent you from and punish you for stealing besides people defending their property and life themselves...oh and random heroïc/dumb acts by other NPCs courtesy of Radiant A.I ).

I don't know, I just can't imagine the sheriff coming at you and saying

"I've finally caught you, you SCUM !

Now pay 245 caps, go to jail, or resist and face the consequences"

That would be rather retarded in my opinion. I know that there were "jails" in Fallout but I don't see it working like that in Fallout 3.

In the Fallout series, jail would work like this:

The Xeriff comes running at you, surround by six tough goons in leather armor with a 10mm pistol on their holsters:

"Congratulations, you've won a week in the cell, free o' charge. You'll be sent outta town after that. If you return, I'll kill you."

You know... I can see it playing out EXACTLY like that.

Poor FOblivion. You were doomed from the start.

So if I am a goody good two shoes I can't hire or convince a former Enclave soldier to join my party?

Shouldn't this depend on your speech skills and how much money you can fork?
I am pretty sure that 'bad' people can look past your good deeds if the price is right.

But will "good" people join you even for a noble cause if you have a track record of murdering the innocent? or how about your the goody two shoes it would be a bit out of character to have evil NPC's in your party. Also In FO2 you could have your speech skill maxed but it wouldn't matter if you become a slaver.

The slaver part made sense because of the brand/tattoo (can't remember which) you received.

I'm wondering if the FO3 npcs are going to be soulless meatbags, instead of companions bursting with personality (gotta love sulik).

Yeah! How about fixing those?! :? Instead of throwing out the window things Fallout DID good and keeping things that need improving or overhauling untouched? Like, I don't know, male/female playthroughs, or age dependent paths, or the combat system, or the character system, or the dialogs, everything needs improving.

Sulik is the man. I still remember the first time he died I actually felt sad. When I looted his body I left him with his armor, spear and two coins.

Also on the whole alignment thing, Sulik wont return to your party if you tell him to wait with negative karma. He says something like you have problems.

i think you can't get some of the other npcs if you have really bad karma.

Age had absolutely zero effect in Fallout.

No it doesn't. There are some dialogs that recognize it.

Besides, I'm saying it needs improving.

Good question, added this to the Fan Interview list, but no promises if it's going to show up on the final list or not.

No, there aren't. Pity, I would love to see my character talking like some middle-aged crisis guy.

Age doesn't always dictate that one has to act a certain way. I'm sure we all know at lest one 30 something year old that parties harder then you do. But it would have been funny if your character could not enter a bar because they were underage or if you could get a pedophile perk for messing around with little kids.

You are one sick motherfucker.

But seriously, I just replayed Fallout 1 & 2 to death, and there is not one single time age affects anything. Not that it matters in fallout 3 though, since you are stuck being 19 years old every goddamn time!
