I thought doom 2016 was a decent game, that's honestly overrated. There are better old school Fps throw backs, like ion maiden, amid evil, and dusk.

Agreed, Doom 2016 played a lot on the "going back old school" but only plays to a degree like the old games. There is still rather a unnecessary focus on modern elements such as cinematic take downs which rather become tiresome after a while (optional of course), a storyline that is perhaps as extended as that of Doom 3 but still pretty much forced on you (and I personally prefer Doom 3's storyline), and sometimes feels so damn full of itself (I think it got that from Brutal Doom)

I have been playing Ultimate Doom on gzdoom after not having touched that game for more eighteen years or longer and have just started the second chapter.
My intention has been to find all the secrets this time but got rather sidetracked when I downloaded Doom 64 Retribution (a Doom 64 specifically designed to run gzdoom).

Doom 1 is definitely timeless but I can only play it for so long before I want to take a break and play something a bit more story driven like.
Doom 64 is okay but it is just more of the same. The sound is definitely creepy at some parts though.

I have the opposite problem. I can only play a story driven game for so long until I feel the need to take a break and play something more gameplay oriented. Though I do love a game with a good story as long as it still feels like a game and not like a movie.

Btw, I have been replaying new vegas lately but it's getting boring fast. I think it's because I played it so many times. I have been trying to get to the dlc since I have never played them which is ironic, since I have played new vegas so many times.

Well for me it can become somewhat repetitive after a while, just shooting enemies, searching for keys and secrets, I just want to become a bit more engaged in the world.

And yes, gameplay should come first and be the primary focus and not being broken up often with parts in which you have to talk to people in order to progress or cutscenes.
That is one of the reasons why I did not want to play Metal Gear Solid 4 and the other games coming after it.

I have the same feeling. I love FNV but I have played it and its DLCs just way to many times to the point that it feels that when I play the game that I am just going "through the moves" again.

I talked with Torontrayne about it and he told me that at this point playing the game is just an obsession now and no longer something that gives joy and entertainment. That is why I decided to abort my latest go at finishing it and play other games like Doom 2016 and now Doom mods.

At some point I honestly considered getting Fallout 4 just to have some new experience but I am glad that I am still resisting it. I don't want to pay for titles that have caused the decline of the franchise.

I've been playing Fallout 1.5: Resurrection and it was absolutely amazing! A bit difficult TBH but felt like playing FO 1 and 2 again.

I know I'm kinda late to the party, but I just finished playing through the "I have no mouth and I must scream" game for the first time, and for me, its a love/hate relationship.
What I absolutely love about this game: the narrative, which thankfully isn't just a rehash of the original short story, the characters, who you get to know really well as you progress, the art, which I find really quite unique and the soundtrack, which really resonated with me. Basically everything.
What I absolutely hate about this game: Having to restart 10 f**king times just so I can get the perfect ending, which was truthfully kind of underwhelming. I know what Harlan was going for, making the player having to go through the tortures of AM endlessly, and suffer just like poor Tony, Ellen, Gorrister, Nimdok and Benny, but holy hot damn I almost gave up. Plus there's a considerable amount of what I would call 'bullshit' that makes it pretty much impossible for a player to obtain the perfect ending to this game on a first run.
Regardless, figuring out puzzles on my own was extremely satisfying and made me feel smart. As my first Point&Click game I had a good time. I give this game 387,44 Million nanoangstroms out of 10.

Playing new vegas got boring so now I'm playing Fallout 1.5 Resurrection instead. This is my second play through and I am thinking of playing Arcanium or Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines after resurrection.

Just finished up Spider-Man on PS4. It's a shameless Arkham clone, but it's a damn good shameless Arkham clone.

I mean, yeah but at least the dodge mechanic makes sense with Spider-Man lol. And I'd say that Arkham style combat was just a tad watered down version of older Spider-Man games if my memory serves me well. Mash a button, maybe a direction or timing difference for "combos" and another button to dodge attacks was practically Spider-Man 2.

Returned to SWAT 4 with Special Elite Forces mod. It restores some cut content (traps, some lines and weapons), adds new equipment and adds some realism elements (beanbags, stingers and flashes can incacipate or even kill, tasers can be lethal to elderly, addicts and homeless and suspects can run away if you leave them alone).

It also allows you to play through SWAT 4 and expansion pack campaigns merged along with it's own unlock system.

Best way for New Vegas to not get boring. Take a break, like a really long one. I haven't played New Vegas since summer and I feel like booting it up again, after I mod crap out of it. Still, I am also holding off, till Frontier comes out. As much as I love New Vegas (>1000 hours), I know almost every nook and cranny, bar few.

So, I am waiting for Frontier, that will surprise me. Also Frostpunk rocks, it's one of the best economy/building your own city/survival games I have played in recent years. Definitely worth it's money.

It's more the combat which also utilizes two button take downs ala Arkham. The story is even structured similarly complete with Scarecrow esque hallucination sequences.

Ah, fair I see what you mean with that.
And I didn't connect the Scorpion part with Scarecrow part. I had forgotten about that all together actually. I don't really remember the whole plot of Arkham City and I never finished Asylum so I can't comment on that fully.

Agreed. I played Batman Arkham Asylum and City 3 times each, and was obsessed with them for years. They're easily my favourite games, but I guess you need to be a hardcore Batman fan to truly enjoy them. They're far from perfect, but hold sentimental value. Arkham Knight however, whilst enjoyable, has far too many glaring plot-holes and poor decisions to be comparable to the originals. Origins was fine, and had some good moments too, but is inferior to Asylum and City imo.

That's fair. I commend insomniac for actually expanding on that style of game in ways the proper Arkham sequels never did, but they wore their influences on their sleeves. The ending was perfect too. Another reminder of why it sucks to be Spider-Man.

lowkey the arkham games steadily got worse and worse as they went along culminating with the dumpster fire that was Arkham Knight.

biggest problem with city is it suffers from "open world for no reason" disease. unfortunately later games followed suit. also! stealth is stupidly OP in city and beyond. to the point where it sucks all the fun out of it. just stay in the grates till they're all dead. whole game ruined at that point. at least city's story was actually good. which is far more than can be said for arkham knight.
every once in a while we get a clone that surpasses what its aping. we saw happen with the original Silent Hill.

A New Dragon Ball Z RPG got announced, graphics look purty but I am gonna wait for gameplay videos before deciding if I am even interested, it's being labeled as an "Action RPG" and those are extremely hit and miss, and there is nothing that excites me less than going through Dragon Ball Z's plot on a game for the 10000th time.
