This is a great thread to bring up:
Conserving Ecosystems by Ceasing the Importation of Large (CECIL) Animal Trophies Act
How many people did they get together to think this one up?
Well, it's that time of the year for people on twitter to pretend they give a shit about anything going on out of their houses.
I've seen more people give a shit about this Lion this week than they do about all the unarmed people being killed all over the US. Flags and Lions.
People give a shit about what's trending. Boko haram is not trending, that's why nobody cares that they are killing tons of people. Pigs are not trending, that's why nobody cares that they are eating animals smarter than dogs.
Well, if Pigs didn't want to be eaten then why are the so delicious? Altho I don't get the Bacon obssession, Ribs and pork chop are so much tastier than those strips of grased skin....
Which really bugs the fuck out of me. Faux outrage online! <Real outrage not fake.
True enough. The great theatre of human tragedy continues on. The press tends to make stories like this huge. They're like the 'Pied Piper' and people tend to follow along like mice.
Believe it or not, I'm not against hunting and I'm not an 'Animal Rights' activist. I had an ex- girlfriend that was a member of PETA. It's part of the reason why she's my EX GF.
What saddens me and what I think really chaps people's asses about this is the way this animal was lured out of the safety of a preserve, wounded and stalked for 40 hours. Not very sportsman like IMO.
Well the guy that killed the lion was a complete douchebag as they lured the thing out of it's protected habitat just so they could kill it. But people are acting like they always cared about poaching when they never even put a single second of their time towards participating in any real activism. Same way people o twitter are agaist harrassmet only when the harrassed is of a specific group of people.
P.S. I LOVE BACON & BABY BACK RIBS.
People act like they give a fuck to get the ball rolling a bit then they run off to leave it sitting in the dirt forgetting there was ever a ball in the first place. It gets a lot of issues brought up without ever fixing a thing. People go around and sign some papers then shit goes back to being the same.
I have never tried, but maybe dogs and rats taste good too . Asians seem to love them.
It's all in the culture. Some meat eaters here would probably not eat fried intestines and rice cooked with cow blood, but here it's a very common dish (And it's fucking delicious).
I always rolled my eyes at the "the yeat dogs!" outrage. Talk about Americentrism to the extreme. They don't care about their apple products being done by exploited children in the same country, but "OH MAH GAH! the yeat an animal that in my country we have different values about! They gotta stop now!".
We have the same dish here in Lithuania, but it's pig intestines and blood, it's pretty good, but since i don't eat pigs anymore, it's of the list. I would probably go vegetarian, if i knew i could get all the nutrients from plants, but i don't trust the vegan/vegetarian cultists enough to provide unbiased information.
Well, My buddy is a vegetarian (he is not one of those ultra vegan douches) But he seems to be doing fine with including milk products and eating eggs in his diet.
I just couldn't go vegetarian, I like meat, I grew up eating meat. I respect people who don't eat meat for whatever reason as long as they aren't insufferable about it.
I'm a member of PETA; People Eating Tasty Animals!
But, all joking aside... most ACTUAL animal lovers HATE PETA. At least the ones who do any ounce of research, anyway. Last I heard, PETA's euthanasia-to-rescue ratio is at a staggering 95%! That means for EVERY 20 animals they "save", PETA euthanizes 19 of them. 15 years ago it was a much lower 60%, and yet they paraded around like they're the best option for strays because animal shelters "kill animals". Yes, animal shelters DO put down animals, but only the ones that they cannot truly save. The unruly ones deemed incapable of rehabilitation (Cesar Milan would say otherwise, I'm sure), the rabid ones, the old and injured ones, etc. But their numbers were WELL below 50%. Yet somehow, while killing the great majority of all the animals they "save", PETA sees itself as the saviors for animals.
Delusional radicals, no other explanation.
Onto a more light topic... I think this whole lion thing is being blown WAY out of proportion. Yes, it was wrong, but like others have pointed out... it's NOT as important as human organ trafficking, growth and spreading of terrorist movements, and a great deal many other situations at hand right now.
Yeah, my family's French Canadian. They eat blood pudding (which is really a sausage). The Quebecois call it "Boudin". I've eaten it from time to time but it's not something I crave or would die without. "Ragout de pattes de cochon et boulettes" on the other hand - Mmmmmm!
Maybe i will do something similar, but will also include some fish.
What i don't get about vegans, is the diary product demonizing... Kefir is great for ones health and digestion!
I'm a firm believer of not wasting anything, including any parts of the animal. I can personally put this into practice with a turkey (sandwich slices, soups, pies, leftovers for dogs, etc), but I wouldn't EAT all of the parts of a goat, cow, or pig. I just want nothing to do with those pig feet, ears, tripe, haggis, etc. That's where OTHER people enter the picture! Don't waste any of the animal; I won't eat it all, but other people will! =D
Like all philosophies, it varies from vegan to vegan. I once met a vegan (not knowing she was vegan) and we got into this RIDICULOUSLY hot dispute once I made a joke about being carnivorous. Apparently HER reasons were inspired by some kind of "Eastern" spirituality she had embraced, that she couldn't even have honey because it was exploiting the bees. What I didn't like about her approach was how obstinate she became about what I was saying, when I was trying my damnedest to be respectful of her choices, but at the end of the day, all I would've had of my own baggage is a total lack of understanding WHY people do these things, not disdain for it. As an omnivorous species, it's just unnatural. You can MAKE DO with a diet that includes all of the necessary proteins and vitamins if you eat very specific grains and starches, but that's endeavoring to compensate for actively avoiding a natural diet that is MUCH easier to come by. It just rings silly to me. If seeing something as counter-intuitive and thereby not doing it myself, but allowing anyone else to do whatever they choose because that's their own choice is disrespectful, then I guess I'm a disrespectful asshole. But I don't see it that way.
But once they get preachy and condemning... ugh. I don't wanna listen anymore.
On the topic of vegans and vegetarians... some amuse me. NOT in the "hahah, you are lesser than I, and I scoff at you" sense, but in the "they're funny, they know it, and I know it" sense. Like one relative who went "vegetarian" for an unspecified while, only she was TOTALLY okay with eating some beef stir fry I prepared for her. That wasn't breaking her vegetarian diet at all! Nooooooo! Of course not! XD But she was completely humble about it, which I couldn't help but respect. If you acknowledge what you're doing, what's there to diss about that?
Pig Feet are delicious. We also make a kind of Black pudding here in Boyaca with the neck and head of Corn fed chicken. I like eating the eyes and the crest, I don't care if you judge me. It's so delicious.
One thing I don't eat is eggs. The smell makes me nauseous.
Back on topic:
ANother thing that bothers me about this outrage is the ridiculous amount of antropomorphization this fuckign lion is going through. If you were to listen to everybody in this story this lion was goddamn Mufasa.
