I would like to have more RPG's set in the Roman ages like age of decadence. Medieval style rpgs have been so overused by this point.

good choice. Two days ago I was reading some articles about Caligula, trying to figure out how faithful the film was. Such dark times.

I would avoid the black plague/medieval period because it is the most obvious, although it would also be an excellent choice.

Industrial Revolution would be interesting, based on the birth of the labor rights.

The French Revolution would be interesting, it's a very underused setting. Only game I can think of that takes place in the French Revolution is assassin's creed unity.

The siege of sarajevo, I know The War of Mine already done something like that, but it's more of a management game instead of a CRPG. And it's a game more about the experience of a group of people, what i want is to be a individual and see the siege through the eyes of the individual I choose/created.

Why not both and go for Justinian Plague?
Basically, the historically real variant of the Age of Decadence setting, in a way.

    Civil War United States.
    Wild West/Indian Territory.
    Rome/Germania/Hadrian's Wall.
I still vote dinosaurs along with various types of hominids.

Migration Period could also be interesting. Fleeing from the Huns, sacking Rome...

Spanish Conquest of the Americas with the various natives making up the bulk of your human contacts. Would need to learn their languages or use interpreters.

That's Expeditions: Conquistador. Expeditions: Viking is the good game (proper rpg). Very intrigued on which historical setting they will use for their next expeditions game.

I'm gonna mention ancient Sumeria, courtesy of @zegh8578 even though he specifically mentioned strategy games, and basically the whole region of the ancient days Middle East described as the Biblical times.

I want to see one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World like the Hanging Garden of Babylon appearing in RPGs, and also something akin to the Tower of Babel

And, although Medieval times were closely tied to Europe and the Middle Ages, I think other parts of the world, like Middle East and Asia during the Medieval times would be interesting setting for RPGs that's not anything fantasy/medieval Europe related.

Sumeria would lend itself beautifully to RPGs, especially since the earliest Mesopotamia would have competing city states, each with their central temple and corresponding agendas that the player could exploit for quests and decisions

If more magic-oriented, each city state has god-kings associated, which would also work perfectly in a fantasy setting

Morrowind has a lot of obvious influence, such as the ziggurat-like structures in Vivec, including the living god-king residing in the main temple

Like most gamers of a certain age, I have an RPG in production which may or may not ever see the light of day.

The historical era it's set in is...now.

Think about it - it doesn't take much in the way of fiction to tip the geopolitical situation of the world today into the perfect eve-of-the-apocalypse setting. Climate change, extreme weather, governmental surveillance, terrorism, Trump, EU (Brexit and others), Russia just being Russia...it takes very little exaggeration to invent whatever flash points you need for a great story.

Heh. I was also thinking about an RPG setting that is a dystopian Europe in the year ~2030. After a massive recession and a bunch of riots, a unified EU anti-riot police is formed with more and more political power stripped from the nations and given to the EU. Result is a massive surveillance state with heavy censorship laws and a brutal police force. Basically, it's all the EU conspiracy theories come true, resulting in a nigh Stalinist dystopia.

Hey, remember now a REALLY cool setting (at least for me).

    The Nineties :D

Mother 2 was my first rpg in a modern ambience and I love it for this.

but to be honest, I can not visualize this rpg unless it's a comedy/child friendly (pokemon)
