Does anyone here have some tips for writing editorial essay/ short story? Most of my problems tend to be with starting the essay itself and making it read less like a youtube comment.

Well you need to organize your thesis in terms of Synopsis and Premise Samples, and Conclusion.
The Synopsis is a summary of your thesis in a paragraph, it should serve as an introduction. It's useful to start off with a quote from something or maybe a question that your essay is going to answer.
After stating your premise you should proceed to show a sample of your research, and then detail your conclusions in the end.

A Short story similarly will need to be organized in either a 3 act strcuture (the most basic one) or a timeline of events, you will need to determine the framing of the story, the tense ou are writing it in and even wether it's chronologicaly told or not.

I couldn't help much for an essay, sorry. From what I remember, I think that Walpknut is right, it would basically be a structure like this:
Introduction (quote, question), thesis (you advance your answer), antithesis (you confront its limits, basically punch it with counter arguments to see how it holds up by its own), synthesis (you conclude by showing how your thesis holds up, in the end)

For writing a short story however, google "Monomyth" or "Hero's journey", it's the most commonly used story structure today. You can apply it to basically anything. Long story short, it's a three act structure, centered around archetypes, and with 16 essential story elements.
Robert McKee has a similar story structure, but he also explains the concepts of conflict, quest etc.

I once heard an author speak about the writing process. He said to just start writing something and then you can fix it in the revision process. I would probably say make some bullet points or an outline before you start doing sentences, but most people get stuck on the sentences (and no one wants to read essays or fiction in bullet points), so just start writing something.
