Fallout: Bakersfield (Fallout in DOOM engine)

The best depiction of 3D Fallout I have seen, hands down. However, this seems to play like a boomer shooter, minus the movement. It would have been cooler if the combat was turn-based but in first person, and I can't think of any games that do this unless it is not feasible.

try wizardry 8

Afterwards Fallout 2 in UDK [but non-interactive]:

question @Gizmojunk weren't you trying to mode fallout 3 camera into top down view? it seems possible, and there is modes that replicate turn based and map travelling from the originals, it would be interesting to see the final results

I asked a Bethesda developer if the game time, and the combat AI, could be manipulated (using the built in script functions) to imitate turn based combat. He thought yes, but that Bethesda would never do it, or test it.

I did some UI concepting examples, but no fully playable mods; no combat examples.

The other issue was the maps. Every map would have to be altered because most of the ceilings (and many of the roofs) are one-sided; never expected to be seen from above.

The one sided textures is annoying but could be useful, just like in 1&2 where the roof vanishes when you enter a building, but in practice I could see where that would be at best very unwieldy unless they basically remade a game for it, shame too cause that could be fun

They show; even one sided the ceiling pipes, and other decorations are never perfect 90 degrees from the camera. The models need to be deleted from the maps.

Looks amazing.
Gameplay-wise, I'm curious what the 'scope' is. In an RPG, you can get away with a smaller world (a la Fallout 1) because you have reactivity and diverse outcomes. Also, the levelling/equipment of each player alters their experience.
In a shooter, on the other hand, you rely solely on levels and enemies. But you burn through the stages rather quickly, so the devs need to cater for that.
What do you guys think? Can Fallout even 'work' as a fast-paced FPS? (Beyond the obvious tons of talent that went into this).

Also curious what their business model looks like, since Bakersfield is a not-for-profit project?
Or do they rely on in-direct support (Patreon or similar).
Anyway, this and the unannounced RPG look amazing.
