Needless suffering I guess.
Petition to bring back the crucifixion of profligates. (jk)
Because measuring the amount of pain someone should receive is impossible due to many crimes not being compatible. How much torture should a man receive for wrongly being convicted of a rape? Will he get the torture taken back when they find out he was telling the truth? How about his fingers and nuts?
There are two positions to consider. Well actually tree, but more about that later. The first position, is a humanitarian one. As a society we have progressed in a direction where we simply value human live in such a way that we say, evey human life has rights, including criminals. So no torture, as that is kinda well, against human rights.
The second point, torture is very ineffective in terms of punishment or investigating crimes. This has been proven time and time again historically and scientifically even. So why keeping something up that's inhumane and ineffective?
And this brings us to another point ... revenge. This could be actually the only reason that has some merrit. But then you have to ask your self, do you want to live ina a society driven by revenge? Toront explained already why that can be a huge problem too.
@Crni Vuk Those are all very valid points, but tell me more about this tree you mentioned.
Human rights is something I have a hard time believing in. It's not the concept itself that I dislike but the people who enforce it. I just dont get why is it that when a woman or a homosexual gets stoned or gets their rights removed human rights officials dont give a shite. But when a religious fanatic's right to stone or even kill said people because their "god" told them to gets stolen, human rights folk go wild.
From my uneducated view, almost everything wrong with society comes from people including the stupid and uneducated gaining freedom and equal rights. This kinda crude mindset of mine pisses me of at times. Sorry if I bother you.
@SquiglyContiello Honey, there are a lot of stupid people out there in the world who fuck things up for everyone else. Your mindset is less crude than it is coldly practical. My social experiment is gonna be to take warning labels off shit and let natural selection do its thing. #AureliusForPresidentHe’llLetYouEatLeadPaintGoForItRetard
Where are homosexuals and women stoned to death in Europe or the US? I think you're looking at it from the wrong way. Human rights can of course only work in a society that actually beliefs in them, or at least the principle of it. Of course they get violated quite regularly. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have them.
In Muslim countries.
Yeah, but then I am not sure what your point really is. Do you want us to abandon human rights because Saudi Arabia a muslim country and Uganda a christian nation kill Homosexuals? *shrugs*
Not exactly. What I would prefer more is some sort of limitation to rights for specific people instead of everyone havig equal rights.
Uhm, that would be kinda discriminatory and defeat the purpose of human rights, which are build on the principle that everyone has them, simply because they are humans.
@SquiglyContiello So something along the lines of Starship Troopers? You gotta earn your status and rights as a human being?
Idk, never seen Starship Troopers yet. Not sure where to start.
With the movie Star Ship Troopers.
There's also the book. But the movie is more of a triple parody. Still fun to watch.
I guess I should avoid the animated ones too?
Never watched those, can't really say.
The animated movies are definetly better than those shitty Sequels to Star Ship troopers, which are not even B Movie quality.
