Steam definitely has its flaws but it is still the better platform between the two. Epic Games Launcher seems to be hyper focused on being very anti-consumer.
Steam is good on the consumer end, but Epic Games is better on the developer end, at least with regard to money. Epic Games can quite easily improve in this aspect however, and then Steam will be forced to become more competetive.
@Greentoast11 competitive for the good of the consumer or the good of their business? I see less and less sign for the former. Epic's shenanigan is a precedent for something that has been plaguing console gaming since ever, and I doubt anything good for the consumer can come out of this all.
Competitive for the developer, steam takes 30% cut of all sales, that's absurd. Epic's actions can only be good for the developers. And for the consumer too since there will be more competition.
@Greentoast11 how's 30% absurd? Last time I heard, physical copies takes even more than that. Also, if you think Epic's shenanigans counts as 'competition', that somehow will turn it all good for consumers, you haven't been paying attention.
Epic takes 12% of the sales instead of thirty and pays publishers for timed exclusivity. That sounds good on paper but the trade off is a smaller install base, no access to certain markets due to how poor Epic's store is. I am guessing when Publishers see they make more money on the long run with no exclusivity deals Epic's scheme will fall to pieces.
