The 40's? Haha. Oh no.

I'm just waiting on the rational on this besides the car models they used which were likely due to licensing issues. Granted I am going off 25 year old memory. But they have computers even I think.

Please respond soon Graves. The suspense is killing me.

I always assumed because of the mob aesthetic, the cars, the fact that the bat computer took up a whole ass room and the fact that the mask of the phantasm confirmed takes place in the 40s.

The police using blimps instead of helicopters in this one image lends credibility to the theory but it could also be a divergent retro futuristic timeline. Was Phantasm written by the same people?

Yeah. Its included in the complete series set as a two part episode which is odd because it was a theatrical film.

I always thought it was a little like Fallout and it's divergent timeline. Especially with how modern Robin's bike looks and Mr. Freezes stuff. Guess I need to rewatch the whole series to find out.

Says here they were going for a timelessness quality and took inspiration from the old superman cartoons. It shows. It's why Gotham looks like Gotham should.

That magazine cover is from the Grey Ghost episode.

Whether or not it did take place in the 40s it's clearly been retconned in stuff like justice league or batman beyond.
