I will say this, war prior to the 1800's was cooler. Cavalry charges, large battles to the death, swords, armor and etc. Maybe I like it more because im such a huge history nerd and I adore cavalry (cavalry charges are just too badass)

Isometric RPG's tend to have more reading yes but it shouldn't be a crutch for the gameplay. Many CRPG's have fun and engaging gameplay. Divinity, Wasteland 2, Fallout 1-2, Underrail (mixed feelings about it overall but still), PoE and hell even Tyranny. DnD maybe a bunch of nerds making shit up...

I like the DX:MD and DX:HR more than the original. Granted dialogue based choice/effect and overall story/themes were handled somewhat better in the original but gameplay is king and its a more streamlined and focused deus ex games.
