Steam just reached 5 million concurrent users.

I used to enjoy owning / collecting boxed copies of games until the industry switched to those silly dvd cases (often) with flimsy uninspired 2 page "manuals". Now I don't even look at games in brick and mortar stores anymore and buy my games wherever they are cheapest online.

Actual, turn-based strategy X-Com sequel in the works

Curious to see what Sid will do with X-COM. In the meantime I'm going to play Xenonauts, it's not an "official sequel" but it looks very promising and faithful to the original IMO. http://www.xenonauts.com/

Steam just reached 5 million concurrent users.

"Bloating up my computer" that's a bit of a hyperbole unless you are using a very old computer you won't even notice Steam running in the background. Perhaps that was a problem in the early days of the program. The games that require "internet running all the time" also require internet...

Fate of the world is the best kind of hard

I bought it at release because I liked the premise and wanted to support the developers, I haven't really played it yet but I'm sure I will give it whirl when I'm in the mood for a laid back game like that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMyGKnJ8VZ0

Shopping for a new Graphics Card

I don't know, I don't think I could go back to stock models because of how crappy (and noisy) their cooling is. It's true that you can overclock any card with very little effort but you would need to buy an aftermarket cooler in order not to cook your new GPU :) I finally ditched my (stock)...

Shopping for a new Graphics Card

Yeah and you can very easily overclock the 560ti Twin Frozr cards even further (they come with a much improved cooling solution) so their performance nears that of the much more expensive GeForce GTX 570 (360$). IMO it's currently the best "bang for buck" card on the market.

    Stalker Clear Sky Patch Question

I'm not sure about this (I own the Steam version of CS) but I can only find the final patch on their website so I assume it's the only one you need to install... http://stalker.deepsilver.com/patches.php?lang=eng

Shopping for a new Graphics Card

If you are willing to spend a little more I would recommend checking out the "560ti Twin Frozr II". It's a factory overclocked / quiet version of Nvidia's 560ti card. It runs all recent games on high / ultra settings at your native resolution (your CPU is a pretty huge bottleneck though)...

I don't intend to play FNV again (or anything built around that horrendous engine) but this is really cool none the less.

    E.Y.E cybermancy

My main gripe with E.Y.E was that I expected a finished product, this game from the very beginning gave me the impression of being little more than a beta version of an (overly) ambitious project. I will definitely give it another chance in the future when I'm in a more patient mood. And yeah...

    Your GOTY 2011 (poll added)

This year wasn't that awful for gaming IMO. The games I enjoyed most this year: FPS: Hard Reset: amazing setting, challenging gameplay, beautiful graphics, high replay value thanks to the upgrade system and difficulty settings, devs who keep improving their game by listening to the...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Anno 2070, very addictive and amazing game especially now that I'm starting to get a little better at it. Only real (huge) downside is the crazy DRM / Ubi server. We just lost a good half hour of MP advancement thanks to the Ubi server going offline in the background.
