    The Fallout from Fallout 3

It's cute how the author tries to find the "positive side" of Fallout 3, because, surely, it must be there. There's a need to sound "unbiased" and therefore every cloud must have a silver lining, whether it actually exists or not. Of course, the truth is, there isn't anything in Fallout 3...

    Fallout 3 Retrospective at RPGWatch

I've been trying to make this not sound abrasive, but brevity has this unfortunate side-effect. And I cannot go on about this for pages anymore. ... If you find the writing in Fallout 3 even remotely interesting, then you desperately need to read a science fiction book. If you think the...

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Revealed

Indeed. The cinematics were what surprised me. I knew since 2008 that Jay Wilson was going to ruin the game, but I didn't expect them to ruin the cinematics. Even the intro sequence, there are so much better ways to script what happens there, you could quickly establish a relationship between...

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Revealed

I might've given it a chance if they released this expansion as a free upgrade, as a means of apology to those who wasted $60 on the original game. Of course, this won't make it properly randomize levels, fix glaring design problems, or reintroduce missing features, because it's too much work...

    It's not enough.

It's nice to know that some people still want a real Fallout game. And by "some people" I mean "woo1108". @SnapSlav: I agree that COD4 was a great game. It had many memorable moments, the ending was emotionally built up, and the scripting was done properly. When you failed, you knew why...

And once again, neither sequence took away player controls. And they are just level enders. I was talking about FEAR/Crysis 2/Max Payne 3 sequences, where the "narrative picks up" suddenly and they take away player control.

Duke3D didn't have in-game cutscenes like that. And Half-Life's cutscenes were explicitly designed to never take away player control. They were just scripted events you could observe. Half-Life 2 started doing the whole "Gordon! You've been knocked out!" shit but it's not the worst offender...

    Th4if no more.

I remember in FEAR I walked into a cutscene where some guy knocks the hero unconscious with a wooden board. The only problem is, I was aiming at the board as it was coming, and if it wasn't for the hardcoded cutscene, I would've shot his arm off. Suddenly in a game focused around player...

Before 3d came into power, consoles were about pixelated abstractions and were seen as a niche for nerds and possibly children. As the userbase expanded, game companies started catering to their new dudebro overlords.

It all started when the consoles made the gaming mainstream, and games became movies with interactive elements. Case in point: Max Payne 2 vs Max Payne 3.

Fuck their stupid narrative. In older games narrative didn't cripple gameplay. It was a sound design. Now you gotta have the cutscenes in key points of a level for emotional development(tm), so player has to be put in a cage.

    Rise of triad

I've been playing FPS since 1991 and it's the first FPS that actually made me nauseous. Somewhat alarming really. Maybe I'm getting old. But more likely it's the hideous disproportion between FOV, player movement speed vs level sizes, and framerate jerking. The game seems like a...

Any good dialogue in Fallout 3?

Fallout 3 had the worst writing I've ever seen in a videogame created by supposedly English speakers.

Why is Fallout 3 so hated?

You are missing the point as to how immersion is achieved. The virtual world has to accomodate and protect player's suspension of disbelief, not aggravate and destroy it through internal inconsistencies.

    Bioshock or Bioshock 2?

A game's internal complexity is not judged by how hard it makes the player struggle with counterintuitive puzzles, ambiguously defined skills, or poorly functioning UI.

    Bioshock or Bioshock 2?

Not really. Fallout was a more complex game than Wasteland. Bioshock is a less complex game than System Shock 2. The only improvement Bioshock has over System Shock 2 is the graphics. In regards to gameplay mechanics, everything else about it was a decline.
