Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

Continuum's dialog box art in game screenshot, with the minor adjustment to screen(glass thingy) Y position: This will be available in the next release of the hi-res patch. For fallout purists it can be turned off in the ini but will be enabled by default. Looks pretty good I think. :)

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

I can do that. Looks great by the way, Once you've uploaded the finished product I'll make the adjustments and happily incorporate it into the next release. @hasnogames: Sfall for fallout1 was abandoned before release of the hi-res patch. Consequently the two don't work well together(the...

Fallout 2 gives my computer a workout...

The Fallout's like a few old games aren't very multitasking friendly and don't relinquish the cpu for things like idle mode, which is probably what's causing your excessive fan noise. There is an option in sfall(which comes with the unofficial patch) that should help though. Find the ddraw.ini...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

I'm glad this has gotten so many responses. Now to answer some questions and fill in some details. Firstly, the Fog of War addition is of course completely optional and disabled by default. I've wanted to do this for a while to bring back some of the mystery and urge to explore that the...

    Heap errors. Any ideas?

I think it's the art cache. In my copy of Fixit's .cfg its set to 16MB, 16610803 comes out just shy of 16MB and 305934 puts it over. You should try increasing the art cache size, maybe 256.

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

Just checking in to show some of the stuff I'm working on. Here's a couple of picks of the new window mode. The window edge can be dragged to reveal more of the map and min/max and close buttons work as expected. The mouse can move outside the window and you hold down a customisable key to...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@Mr. 1010101: If it previously worked fine on the same hardware I'd suggest updating/reinstalling Graphics Card & Monitor drivers. With the hi-res patch installed you could also try setting the resolution manually by adjusting the SCR_WIDTH & SCR_HEIGHT vars in the "f2_res.ini"(m2_res.ini or...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@Sduibek: Hopefully some of those problems will be overcome in the next release as I've made some updates to the graphic output including a Directx9 renderer and a window mode. The next version is still a while away though, probably another month at least. @Mr. 1010101: This may be a dumb...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@Mr. 1010101: What black screen bug? If you mean the problem tissi had with fallout2 several posts back. The hi-res patch seemed not to be at fault and in his case a reinstall fixed things. There is an unresolved issue some have reported with fallout1, where a black rectangle is obscuring the...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@ Lateralus: The steam fallout2.exe is DRM'd so can't be patched. Your best bet is to download Killap's Unofficial fallout2 Patch(look in the files section) which among bug fixes contains an exe that is compatible. Install it then the hi-res patch and you should be good to go.

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@tissi: When you installed the latest hi-res patch did you also install the RP map edge data? If not, open the hi-res installation zip file and copy the contents of "Extras\Edge Data Restoration Project 2.1.2b\maps\" to "your fallout2 install folder\data\maps\". Edit: Actually the...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

All going well there may be an option for this in the next version of the hi-res patch. Sfall (by Timeslip) is a mod for the fallout2.exe and includes may fixes and enhancements to the original game. The hi-res patches 16/32bit colour modes are disabled if you have sfall's DirextX9 graphics...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

Yep, your going to run into trouble if you installed fallout2 under Program Files in Win7. Your best bet is to reinstall somewhere else. I install my games under "C:\Games\". Windows has probably buried your saves in your user folder somewhere, I'm not sure where exactly. Saved games are stored...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@Reaver4567: Not really sure what's going on there. There have been a few people with similar issues and it may just be an incompatibility with old direct draw and your video card. Have you tried using the DirectX9 graphics mode in sfall? Not sure what patches if any your using but Sfall is...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@monguse: A zooming function is already on my fantasy list. That's not to say it wont happen, but there are several large technical difficulties to overcome before it can become a reality. @Pixote: The trouble with angled blockers is that they restrict movement to a greater degree the...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

pretty easy to do: 1. Install the hi-res patch as normal as in the read-me, replacing the old version. 2. From the zip file copy the contents of "Extras\Edge Data Restoration Project 2.1.2b\maps\" to "your fallout2 install folder\data\maps\". And you should be good to go. Although if you...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

World map travel shouldn't really be effected by the hi-res patch. The slowdown is due to an sfall patch (included with the UP). The original speed was system dependant and everyone has different opinion of what the actual speed should be. The settings involved are in the ddraw.ini, look for...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

In the ini find "IFACE_BAR_WIDTH=800". Setting this to 640 will return the Interface bar to its original width. There are only to widths with included graphics these are 800 and 640. Any other option will appear a little stretched. It changes where the interface side bars are cut off. 0 at the...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@Anniealbertpage: Your monitors native res 1366x768 at 32bit colours would be your best bet. You can set this up in game from the main-menu screen under options. If you find that make things seem to small you can use sfalls screen settings to scale up from a lower res to 1366x768. It may not...

Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

@Anniealbertpage: I meant edit those lines to look like mine. Are the music files (01hub.acm etc)actually under data\sound\music? I assumed they were in the sound folder in your pic.
