Ron Burke answers Fallout 3 questions

No it wasn't; it was merely rebuilt from parts taken from other cars and places. Note that the fuel regulator you get in Klamath comes from an identical model car, and it's obviously related to the fusion power source and not modified later because of the icon markings and description...

Don't get me wrong, I like a good view too. That's why I like games with dynamic cameras like NWN2 and Spellforce. I can take in the vistas, take pretty closeup shots of my character and when it comes down to the nitty gritty I go for the isometric view and can move around with the mouse instead...

Why do I feel like he's saying "Ah, Mr. Bond. You've come to my lair at last!"

    The Rybicki Maneuver

Of course the PS3 version adds the fact that it's an amazingly half-assed port to Oblivion's existing flaws. They really got hosed on that one, at least PC users can try to mod the crud out.

Ron Burke answers Fallout 3 questions

Many things in Fallout are implausible. Nobody denies that. But it's still implausible in that lovable science! manner. Exploding fusion reactors are actually a brain bug inherent in 80's-90's sci-fi. Well, the Highwayman uses the same exact fuel-cells that laser and plasma weapons do. :P

See, again you're assuming that immersion only means FPP and "being" the character. I get immersed in the world, in my character's journey. Too much sometimes, I hate it when it all has to end. But still, I become more immersed seeing them in action than pretending I'm really there in some...

Ron Burke answers Fallout 3 questions

Simply because we don't know the exact mechanics of it yet doesn't mean we should toss all sensibility out the window. H.G. Wells wrote a fairly accurate description of war waged with atomic bombs long before they were truly developed. Besides, it's already established that fusion technology...

I don't know about where Sorrow lives but you should see some of the more run down areas in London.. they make Fallout look like Disneyland.

Ron Burke answers Fallout 3 questions

The exploding makes no sense at all. It makes no sense now and it made no sense in the 50s. I gather one of the reasons fusion still eludes us is because it's so stable. It's far far easier to get a reaction with fission. Like I said earlier, even hydrogen bombs need fission triggers. They...

    Soo...what's for dinner?

This topic reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode where a post-nuclear war town is surviving on some crappy grown food or something because a wise old sage told them all the food in their stores was contaminated. Some raider guys turn up and think it's all superstition. Eventually they find...

Inside the Vault - Alan Nanes

Why do you assume that everybody wants to "be" their character? I myself prefer to see my role as the "guiding force" of my character. I'm them, but I'm me at the same time. I'm also a narcissist when it comes to my characters so I like to *see* them. FPP just kills that for me.

Ron Burke answers Fallout 3 questions

It wasn't so bloody silly either. Yes you had big green men being produced by some handwavium goo and lasers and all that, but it all made a kind of strange, self-consistent sense. Bethesda's "science" not only violates science. It violates Science! too.

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Well, got me Beyond the Sword and playing it now. Yeah, it seems all the Warlords content comes with it. The scenarios it comes with are quite cool. Final Frontier, a poor man's GalCiv II.. but it works surprisingly well. Afterworld, some sort of post-apocalytpic tactical war game and even a...

That would be rather hard for them to do given that the Enclave goes boom in every ending. :P

That's the wuss way, man. But yeah, I forgot about the paint poison provided so that the level-scaled characters wouldn't suddenly have a heart attack going up against real enemies. Still, it was fun for a while..
