What is your stance on Achievements?

Well, that depends. Does answering the thread title rewards me with any achievement? Oh and Alec, if my sarcasm meter is working right, i laughed appropriately.

    Edge of Twilight

I agree on that point, though on a more optimistic side, seeing this kind of design on more mainstream games may help prove publishers that audience is ready for something different, and therefore lead to more ambitious and original projects being funded. Bioshock, for instance, didn't live...

    Homogenous Character Design

But you can surely tag "military/war/badass" with masturbation too. Could even be a syllogism: Military badasses are masturbatory. Masturbation is emo. Hence, Military badasses are emo.

    Saint Patricks Day

Oh, now i get why i saw people wearing those stupid promotional hats last night. I'd love to see how's St Patrick's day in Ireland, because here it's just another obvious attempt from the alcohol business to sell you stuff. Anyways, happy celebrating for those who keep the good spirit!

    Stalker Clear Sky?

Very true. And yet, people called it "best", "real" or "true" ending. Funny how in terms in game completion it makes sense, while in term of story it's just a very common "everybody gets happy and lives ever after".

    Stalker Clear Sky?

Both stories are comparable on what's told, decent, classic science fiction. But Half-life surely has a fancier way of telling (scripted sequences i.e). The very linearity of it allows much more control on how to tell the story, while stalker is more some sort of half way between letting the...

    Stalker Clear Sky?

Well, there is the Priboi Story mod, which sets the story about 1 year after the event in SOC. You play a ukrainian military special investigator on the track of a secret group related to the recent events in the zone. It has its flaws, and can be disappointing at times, but it integrates...

Has anyone here played Halo Wars?

Maybe it's some sort of blind justice directed towards people who buy things only by watching a commercial... :P

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Just downloaded World of Goo because of this weekend 's Steam bargain, and while i'm not at all into puzzles usually, i must say i'm really pleased with it. Different atmosphere, coherent aesthetics, great care put on music... Plus those physics elements are really surprising and fun...

    V:TM - Bloodlines

On the other hand, the way you describe it, it fits the setting properly. :) I had a similar problem with the song they play in the Anarch bar (i think it's Ministry), which was a real pain in the ear, while the conversations with npcs there were some of the best i experienced in the game...

Favorite books / What are you reading?

Definitely my favourite story in this Lovecraft book, i have always been amazed by how prophetic he has been on this subject. Started reading 'No Country for Old Men' by Cormac McCarthy. Quite some time passed since i saw the Coen brothers' movie, however they made it so close to the book...

Junwisewar's avatar is from the anime Jin Roh the Wolf Brigade. On a side note, i must say that your previous sig and avatars, Jun, made me want to watch this movie again. Which i did, and enjoyed a lot, so thanks for remembering me of its existence. 8/10 for good ol' fashioned Fallout...

Half-Life Fan Movie: Escape from City 17

Not trying to question the professional quality of their work, but it leaves me very cold. I can't prevent myself from seeing Half Life the computer game with real life characters inserted inside, instead of a real world in which would appear half life elements. Maybe it's hard to get out or...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I should really convince myself to try that build instead of my god knows how many replays as a diplo/sniper... I have this horrible tendancy to redo games exactly the same way i did before (Deus Ex among them)... Also, finally got the grip on Jagged Alliance 2, after not being sold right...

    V:TM - Bloodlines

Same as Brother None, i hesitated many times, hearing only great things about this game on one hand, and being reluctant to the genre on the other hand. But this game is ace. It's even smart enough to take in account the stereotypes that surround the genre and have npc question it or mock it...

I think McRae's one is from that first Daft Punk videoclip, with dog headed guy roaming the city at night... 7/10 on the above, would fit nicely into Vampire:Bloodlines as a NPC.

Favorite books / What are you reading?

Considering the forum we're on, you should definitly try Dick's Dr. Bloodmoney, or How We Got Along After the Bomb, which is a take on how society in Western USA would reorganise after a massive atomic bombing. There are some fantastic ideas in there. It's probably my favourite one from him.

Favorite books / What are you reading?

Currently finishing the second book of the 'Millenium' trilogy, by Stieg Larsson. It's a classical but nonetheless very well executed thriller, and also an interesting take on the detective novel since most of the investigation is made by journalists or unusual characters. I can't judge with...
