Maybe I'm just lucky. I didn't get stuck anywhere. I liked the massive walls of rubble as a tool to force you into the subways (some of my favorite segments). I would have liked to have been able to do more sniper combat from up above (I really enjoyed sniping the Talon merc v Super Mutant...

I liked the wasteland feel. I'm sorry you're unable to. I actually think that the uncanny valley would've kicked in had the graphics been 'better' in some ways. It was desolate and depressing. I enjoyed it.

So, uh, did anyone like it?

Best solution for Moira is shooting her.

10 years is eternity in gaming. Even if you're blind to the advantages it is a very different world. ...and the 'facts' line? Don't tell me you haven't thrown out quite a lot of opinion.

Sometimes a small company will work on a quality RPG that keeps getting pushed back as technology and the industry moves forward, over and over, until it finally doesn't come out. My ex was part of a company like that at one point.

    Fallout 3's commercial success

... and you've got a Trotsky quote up. ;) The development teams that might've done something different didn't get the property. Sure, some of that is a factor of Bethesda being in the right place at the right time... some of the rest is a factor of cold, hard, cash.

If your analysis is that nobody can possibly disagree with you, J, yet people disagree with you, maybe there's something wrong with your analysis. I don't call this a great game. I think it is a decent game. I don't compare it solely to Fallout 1 and 2. I find that irrational. I compare it to...

I think Fallout 3 is better than Fallout 2

Nobody said anything about EA! ;)

    V13 tidbit

Thanks. That's good to hear. That upgrades me to the cautious optimism level. I tend to reach a serious boredom curve in the grind games... despite the 'grind' being designed to keep me playing. I also don't like having to rely on vast amounts of people to accomplish game goals. I think there's...

    V13 tidbit

Any reason it couldn't feature a bunch of non level/non raid based mechanics? As doofy as Puzzle Pirates is, I really rather like the series of minigames that they use to do most things there in the sense that there isn't a classic grind.

Ft. Constantine had one of the few examples of rewarding loot in the entire game. Using lockpick and stuff like that is supposed to bypass combat. There's no law somewhere that says RPGs can't be about exploring or adventure games about dialogue. Explorer is one of the RPG gamer archtypes.

Err, okay. You said there weren't any military installations. There were. As far as I'm concerned... a grind is something you're obligated to take part in to level. I never felt obligated to do much in that regard. I mostly just avoided random combat that I didn't want to take part in. I get...

Questions about FEV in Fallout 3

I felt there just weren't enough of them. I wanted to tangle with Behemoth packs. I think freeing the weaponless Behemoth on the slavers is one of the more entertaining bits in the game.

I think Fallout 3 is definitely more rewarding to people who like exploration than people who like dialogue.

I think my point regarding not everybody agreeing what an RPG is is well made at this point. Also... no computer game comes close to matching tabletop or LARP.

...and we've got somebody in another thread saying the Final Fantasy games 'aren't RPGs.'

I think Fallout 3 is better than Fallout 2

I really didn't like the metafiction or bugs of 2. I still had fun with it though.
