Very few people are receptive to a RT game. I prefer TB combat for a good RPG unless you don't have combat then it isn't an issue. Yeah you can do that but then again the only reason that was there in the originals was because of the limitations of the engine. Just make an exit grid and use a trigger to open a new map when you are in a specific zone. It should be easy.
