    Fallout 3's commercial success

American superhero movies also tend to do well at the box office compared to other movies, but I don't see that that stops decent movies being made.

I think Fallout 3 is better than Fallout 2

Saint Proverbius is right in a way but that doesn't mean that Fallout 3 is better than Fallout 2. Having a mostly empty world for a setting with nothing to do and sticking a very short and poorly thought out main quest somewhere in it does indeed make a game more 'cohesive' but if that's...

Fallout 3 makes list of most offensive video games

Well at least it seems that Fallout 3 is better than GTA 4, in that it runs at least! Maybe it would have been better for Rockstar to have gotten the rights to Fallout for at least we wouldn't be able to play it at all.

    Heres what I don't get.

Lynette shows again the difference in quality of charecterisation between the originals and F3. There you could loathe a character based on a well constructed ideology, Lynette was CONVINCED she was right, and backed it up! NOT just because they were annoying as in F3.

Fallout 3 makes list of most offensive video games

Well Fallout 3 is one of the most offensive games for me ever though not in the way these people mean. Don't understand why Bioshock is there, what's so offensive about it? Would put dozens of games above it.

    Dog armor

Maybe there'll be an 'I h8 Moira' t-shirt modded into it.

    Impressions thread for positive impressions

Eyenixon is right, mechanics make an RPG. Modern ones can have more variety, different consequences etc. but stripped down they all have a particular style that is similar to the Goldbox games that I grew up on. Shit Ausdoerrt, you make me feel old! Hell I bet many of the games I played were...

    Heres what I don't get.

Well Fallout and Fallout 2 only had ONE ending really. You could only defeat the Big Bad in both, not join them(I don't consider being dipped in FEV as a real alternative). The thing about them was that in undertaking your 'big quest' you have an effect on the lives of others leading up to its...

Your Favorite Non-Player Character (is there any?) /spoilers

Fuck, now I have to reinstall the game just to see if there are any memorable NPC's in the game, as for the life of me I can't even remember most of them.

    Something...strange.

Actually Grizzly, the US in the 50's with McCarthyism, Hoover and Barry Goldwater were pretty close in methodology and propaganda with Stalinism in many respects. It wouldn't have taken much for the US to have deviated through it's nuclear anti-commie paranoia to go all the way. I think that...

    Gripes about the writing

Yeah Grizzly, I KNOW the story, I know how you find snippets of stuff, I know all the G-Man using you stuff etc. I understand the story what there was of it, it just wasn't a very good story, sorry. It was told badly, had bad pacing, and was extremely derivative. How often have we had an...

A Question For the NMA Community

I think you'll also find that the majority of Fallout 3 sales have been on the console. It's stupid to compare sales figures between games released 10-11 years ago on one platform which at the time was still niche not mainstream, and with very little advertising with Fallout 3, a...

    Gripes about the writing

Sorry Grizzly, I disagree. You wake up on a train going to some city. Why? Who knows? How does Barney know you're coming? Who told him? Why when you are meant to save the world, you get no information about what to do? Going further you are regarded as the saviour of the world, the 'Free...

Fallout 3 Collectors Edition / Survival Edition

Survival Edition? They should release a 'Survive the Survival Edition Edition' for Fallout fans. A box with Fallout 1 and 2 in it, and a letter from Boyarsky stating that he will get to work on a real sequel after Diablo 3.

    Gripes about the writing

Best shooter recently was Call of Juarez. Been waiting for a Wild West shooter since Outlaws. Half Life still the very best ever though, broke the mould of how a shooter should be. Half Life 2 sucked in comparison, crappy X-files 'you wake up with no idea what you are doing' plot, 80% of the...

Thanksgiving: Count your blessings about FO3

Exactly what I was going to write! I dusted off my Fallout 1 copy and am having a great time with it again. After this I'll go with FO 2 and the Witcher, this time being a buddy of Siegfried. What Bethesdas' by the numbers RPG really brought home is just how much you can feel the...

Hoping for the future by reminiscing about the past...

Well I'll bite....I'm actually now in the middle of a Fallout 1 game, will move on to F2 afterwards, and I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Going further though, in a way I like the spartan feel of Fallout 1 at the moment, the fact that there are only a few quests at each location is...

    Chris Taylor's desktop

A REAL Beth Employer would have Oblivion installed as well to get inspiration for Fallout 3.

Well it started with the expansions for such a 'great' game!

Yeah Zaru, I think they are trying to really give the console blaster crowd what they want. I mean why make a boring RPG using Fallout lore when you can make a Gears of War Fallout Edition(tm) out of it? You already can play from third person so it's like GOW. You are in a world of grey, like...

    Gripes about the writing

Yeah, I too was perplexed by this 'Dr Li' option. How hard is it to write up a check for the speech to see if you have information about a 'Dr Li'? This is an elementary thing for an RPG!
