How would you reboot an existing franchise into a new genre?

A lot of classic games are in the process of taking the hollywood road of "remake but for a target audience" and obviously this upsets fans of the franchises original roots. So I pose a question for you, what franchise or individual game would you reboot, and how would you do it? The only...

Even Tycho from Penny Arcade misses PnP style rpgs

From todays PA post www.penny-arcade.com I find that rather surprising as PA has been pretty big fans of Dragon Age and Fallout 3/NV ect.

Sequels that should be f***ing made.

Psychonauts - DO I even need to explain this one? More of the same but with improved controls a whole new story, heck maybe even a new cast if need be. Just more in the Psychonauts universe. Shadowrun (The SNES version) The genesis version may be superior in many ways but I loved the SNES...

Syndicate rebooted as (surprise) an FPS

Yes but now it'll be an "immersive cinematic first person experience" where you never actually end up piloting a spaceship at all. Also it takes place during an alternate world war 2 timeline where USA is the only surviving country trying to take down the axis after they defeated all of europe.

    Bethesda's preliminary injuction denied, again

EXACTLY With that kind of creativity they could probably create a pretty awesome game.

Ctrl+Alt+Defeat and Destructoid on 'War Never Changes'

True but you are forgetting 1 other reason for war: Religion While it is true that other factors may be involved (for example the USA's manipulation of the pakistanis to create a holy war against Russia in the 1980s was underlying part of a resource gathering war) you can have war simply...

Ctrl+Alt+Defeat and Destructoid on 'War Never Changes'

Honestly I didn't even read the CAD article. Couldn't be bothered to deal with that horrible interface. Only mentioned it cause it cause of its importance to the destructoid article for coherence.

Ctrl+Alt+Defeat and Destructoid on 'War Never Changes'

Ctrl+Alt+Defeat discusses Fallout's iconic catchphrase in their latest issue, a one-page treatise that concludes no constant is to be found in the games making it an empty phrase. Destructoid responds.<blockquote>All of this is contextualized with history itself. “The Romans waged war to...

Feargus Urquhart talks New Vegas, bugs and Fallout Online

The biggest issue with FPS Fallout is that it removes a large section of the Role Playing aspect of the game. Things that make an RPG more immersive than simply putting it in first person are: well written dialog, an interesting plot, a balanced and satisfying set of combat rules. These CAN be...

Feargus Urquhart talks New Vegas, bugs and Fallout Online

The thing is, accessibility doesn't mean dumbing down. It mean simplifying and giving instant gratification. Y'know sort of like how a microwave dinner is just as difficult to make and just as delicious to eat as a slow pit roasted pig.

Unsurprisingly, Duke Nukem Forever reviews are negative

DING DING DING DING! Johnny we have a winner! Pretty good summation. And the review score fiasco is a continuation of the problem that reviewers have of being unable to give games good reviews or bad reviews without making something "damn near perfect 8/10 9/10 goty" or "terrible, should...

Unsurprisingly, Duke Nukem Forever reviews are negative

The level design is really not any worse than 90% of the current top shooters. And the Tiny Duke sections were actually pretty well done (though the rest suffers from being mediocre at best.) Everything else you said is true. Though the animation for the aliens is pretty good (unfortunately...
