Some ideas for F3's storyline. Add more if you are able (no quoting please, and number them 16 onward). If you want to evaluate any of them , start a completely new thread to avoid this one getting cluttered up.

1. "Merge F1 and F2's story elements": Setting F3 between F1 and F2 timewise (the aftermath of F1). Imagine meeting the Metzger or Salvatore as a young man or child (maybe the player inadvertently turns them to lives of evil or kills them?), being involved in the overthrow of the overseer and the setup of the V13 mainframe, helping Shady Sands become the NCR. I would make it possible to find F1's vault dweller (or meet NPCs pretending to be him or her) -- why didn't the VD set up home in Shady Sands? Finding or creating Arroyo (how did the tribe have the resources to build the Tenple of Trials?). Setting F3 after F2 would make the game world a tad too civilised.
2. "Love Interest": right from the start in the form of an NPC of the opposite sex. Make the player more attached to their NPCs. NPCs following you at a distance even if they are dismissed from the group.
3. "Hide away the prostitution story elements". You'd expect a lot of survivors to blame loose morals on the holocaust etc. Make the player work hard to find these people.
4. "Pride of ownership": Own your own slaves, farms, mules, asses, servants, houses, horses, wagons, titles etc.
5. "More quests": A vast number of generic computer generated missions, eg courier messages or packages, picking up items for random people in the game world, scouting missions, spy missions, trading, assassination, theft, planting evidence, finding runaways, defending small settlements until reenforcements arrive, intertown diplomacy, rescuing a person just before they about to be hanged, weapon recovery, "buried treasure", oil exploration, finding prewar artifacts (eg the wreck of Air Force 1, maybe a giant airship?) hostage rescue, bank robbery, a greater focus on time, a desperate attempt to prevent holocaust via time travel (but make it impossible to succeed), "post apocalyptic olympics", "princess and the pea" etc etc.
6. "Family Reunion": Leave your Alter-ego's (the Wanderer's) origins open. Set the player's origins randomly, and let him or her find out who they REALLY are. Leave him/her with a battered family photo, and create quests involving him rescuing family (eg uncles, mother, father, wife, niece, grandfathers, aunts, childhood sweethearts etc) from slavery, bad marriages, boring jobs, bear traps, axe wielding maniacs etc etc or simply to meet up for a bit of a chat and a cup of tea . Failing that, kill 'em for a crappy childhood
7. "Play Sheriff": Once appointed, keep piling sheriff missions onto the player until he or she gives up the badge or the town threw him or her out from a resultant final Catch 22 situation.
8. "More Factions": Religious orders dedicated to preserving knowledge (to prevent history repeating itself) or to destroying knowledge (to prevent it ever happening again). Thieves' Guilds. Misguided amd overzealous vigilante groups. Rise of Nazi lookalikes and new-born totalitarian governments and dictatorships. Let the player play one faction against the other, or even to lead one of them.
9. "The Brotherhood of Steel": Become deeply involved in the BoS, or help spearhead the Enclave's move into the mainland (before the President opts for the "Final Solution"). The first meeting between the BoS and the Enclave. Add Military ranks and promotions. Add medals and other honoiurs. Horses for these futuristic "knights".
10. "Game with no end": A large number of potential aftermaths (and a second F3 song) only available if you die or retire. F2 had at least 10 possible combinations -- why not add more?.
11. "More Perks": eg a perk enabling the player a special attack to shoot 2 pistols simultaneously (or use two knives etc), an anticharisma perk (you can easily incite riots and bar room brawls or are unpopluar no matter how hard you try), the use of poisons, chemical and biological weapons??
12. "More generic NPC's and NPC responses": eg NPCs that pretend to be your character. NPC's telling you that you are not tall enough to match your alter-ego's description. NPC's quickly walking home and locking their doors when they see you. NPC's going to bed. NPC's forming crowds and acting as a group (eg stoning the player).
13. "Cool Stuff": Battered map of post nuclear calif in the F3 box, along with a decent short story included in the manual.
14. "More fan involvement": Allow fans to submit scripts. dialog and quest files for peer review and incorporation into the final release -- this would allow the development team to devote more of their energies to other aspects of the game.
15. "No rights reserved": I would have NPCs named after the posters on this board in return for us forsaking our extremely shaky and worthless copyrights over our thoughts
