Questions, all these are for single player.

1: Any way to change the formation your people take when you have formations on? Any way to change the facing of the formation? - formation seems to be stuck on a bowling pin arangement and faced a random direction each time.

2: Even with 95% chance to hit I seem to do less damage on average with bursts than targeted shots? What am I doing wrong? the NPC's on the other hand when they get that close with a burst weapon tear me up.

3: Forcing turn based mode by hitting enter when I'm set to CTB seems to do weird things to the turns, my main character may go as many as 3 times in a row (yes with no computer turns in between) while my other characters sit around the whole fight never getting a turn. What the hell is going on here ? - I would prefer to use this method as there are times I'm running away or trying to do something with my whole party and it just takes too long in TB. (o.k. this one was more of a complaint.)

4: Is there someway to speed up turn based combat movement like there was in fallout 2 (where you just had a slidebar for how fast things moved) ? I hate waiting forever for all my characters to crawl around 1 at a time.

5: Playing CTB (even in TB to some extent but not as much) I run out of ammo really fast, is there any way to either get allot more ammo or conserve ammo better? Especially interested in rifle ammo.

6: Sneaking & Melee? What's the deal with this? I've never been able to sneak up on anyone into melee range, even from behind with a sneak of 110 and crouched, it's not even useful in about half the situations as opponents will be facing the only entrance and no matter what I do they detect me and usually burst my scout into little bits. (well o.k. it worked in the training mission wooopie) I wouldn't think that melee does that much damage either. Hints & Tips from anyone who does this please?

7: Party Members, is there ever any point where you get the option of taking party members who are better than the ones you start with, considering you get to cusomize them quite a bit once they have been with you awhile. I'm on like mission 7 (beastlords home base) and I still have Stitch, Farsight, etc.

I kill with one burst. See which bullets you're using. My skill is some 140%... I'm using AK47 as primary weapon, Hunting rifle as Long shot and often Magnum for close fights and weak opponents... It takes only 3AP so I can fire 3 shots

Do a single shot on deatclaw.

Do a burst with fleschette shotgun shells on deathclaw

don't start TB with CTB settings... it's bad :)

TB works great in large fights, but I use CTB for one to one combat (just to fire one burst) or even if I position myself good for sniping enemies... just let him pick one by one, aimed in the eyes :)

there is a fast TB in options, try that, I haven't used it

???

I'm on a bonus mission, which is #7 I think... I have 2000 7.62 ammo...

Key to get ammo is to kill the opponent without him firing a shot... then he won't waste any ;)

I use my char to sneak on 2-3 range with no problems (120% skill) but can't on range one... I have no melee, instead I tried a melee char, just run next to the opponet and turn on the sentry mode... Power fist is nice

I have them also, I only use them, others suck... I have farsight as a backup sniper, and I use doc to fire double shotgun (give him two silverhawks so you don't have to reload in combat)...

everything else is being handled by my main char without any problems....

You're farther in the game than me, but I'll answer what I can.

The 'Random Bowling Pin' formation is the only one your squad will ever know. I know. It seems weird to me, too.

I did notice that bursts seem less tough than I was used to from FO 1 & 2. Especially close up. Maybe it's a balancing thing. I guess it's possible that you're not using the right ammo. It makes sense to me that firing a burst of hollow-point ammo at an armored target wouldn't hurt them as bad as aiming a shot at their head.

Nope.

This is kind of surprising ... I've never had a problem with ammo. (Of course, I'm only on mission 5 or 6 ... the first Beastlord one.) All I can suggest is to spend more time on Defensive mode and less on Aggressive. Set up your attacks before opening fire with all your guys at once.
And, of course, search every dead body you create, take the ammo, take the guns and trade them back at base for even more ammo. Looting corpses is essential.

No real hints or tips to give - just wanted to throw in that I have successfully snuck up on people. Just once or twice. And I generally have a lot of difficulty being allowed to use melee even when I try and try to get as close as possible. My hit % stays at 0%. So, when I sneak up on guys I just pull out a pistol and target their eyes.

Figured a couple of em out.

I finnally figured out what was going on when going to TB from CTB - it takes you into Squad TB I was using Individual TB normally and hadn't tried Squad TB. so when I ended my turn it ended all my character turn. Once I tried out squad TB I found it much much faster and better than individual, as you can move and fire who you want and then end your turn without even looking at your characters you don't want to move. I'm sticking with Squad TB now.

As far as ammo I never even got enough of hollow point or fleshets or whatever to use it very much. - I did try using slugs in a H&K I just picked up and my god! Even on single shot this thing just tears up everything in it's path, but by the end of the mission I was out of that ammo. I also got a heavy burst weapon and it tears things up even better but I just can't afford the ammo. I've got like 3000 rounds of 9mm ammo but I like sniping so it's my .233 that I'm running out of (not to mention the ak47 is a wonderfull weapon) I think it's just the smaller ball ammo that sucks, but it's the only thing I have much ammo for. I suppose I might be running out of ammo because I like running around encountering things. It takes me on average 100 attacks (about half bursts) to take down a mutant so that really eats it up. Then there's all those animals etc that don't have any ammo to replenish mine.

As far as HTH it does seem to do good damage, after trying it out on some super mutants. I guess I just don't like getting close to the enemy as their smg's will tear me up.

one more question, I've never got steal to work reloading over and over, but that was with only a 60% or so anyone get it to work? getting all that .233 ammo off of the warriors etc in the base would be really helpfull.

I also figured two other things out - these could be considerd an *** exploit ***
1- mutate! perk lets you add a trait to your npcs if they don't have one. So now all my npcs are wanding around with gifted, i'm wondering if I shouldn't have put finesse or fast shot on some of them instead.
2- if your npc is more than 1 level lower than you, he will level up when you recruit him. I figured this out becasue I'd been pulling a guy with repair skill out when I hit the base to fix my hummer, and then put him right back. I'm thinking you could do this with like people who can steal, barter, etc, and have a full compliment of "base npcs" to do your mundane work for you.

Justisaur - "damn only 3000 rounds of 9mm how am I supposed to kill anything with that?"
