A couple quick questions regarding the invasions/endings for FO1

So what exactly do I have to do to stop the mutant invasions and get the best ending for every settlement? Do I have to complete *BOTH* final quests, thereby ending to game, to stop it-- or can I just complete one of them to stop the invasions and continue playing? I'm a bit of a completionist so ideally I'd like to stop the invasions early, then complete all of the quests and explore as much as possible before ending the game with all good endings. Is this possible?
Side note: I've installed the unofficial patches that restore the good endings back to the hub/followers, so I'm referring to them as well.

Edit: After searching the wiki, I've discovered that the bad ends supposedly only trigger if I fail to kill The Master in the alotted time limit for each settlement (excluding Necropolis). Does this mean I can finish the main quests to the point of killing the master, avoid Necropolis completely after finishing all of the quests there, then put off destroying the mutant base until I'm ready to end the game and still be eligible for all of the good endings for each settlement?

It depends on if you're playing vanilla or my mod (for some locations), but, in vanilla some locations are invaded no matter what if you enter the location after a certain number of days have passed.

Vanilla was not very consistent in regards to invasions.
