A depressing read

Why weak? They are right. If a game runs like shit and is unplayable who'll want to spend money on it. Auto Assault failed not because it wasn't dumbed down enough or didn't have enough "innovayshun" that the "casual gamers" want, it failed because it was a bad game, simple as that.

Treating innovation with caution sucks for gamers, but it's great for businesses. When people buy sequels like there's no tomorrow, why mess with something that works?

Hell, look at how much Beth paid for the fallout franchise, there's nothing innovative about picking up rights to a sequel, but look at how many of us are willing to lap it up. ;)

I'm not against innovation, I'm just playing devils advocate and showing you why they probably said some of the things they did.

Actaully, I think there is some sound advice in there, especially the play your own game advice. And when the devs. don't play the game you're making, why should or would other people play it.

Way too many times, I have played games where I could tell that the devs. didn't even play the last build before the game went gold.

And making the game's controls more streamlined isn't dumbing down. I have nearly given up playing the daggerfall demo since the controls are so difficult to figure out. And by that I mean the UserInterface is such that I don't get know to open buy things in a shop or how to have a conversation with someone.
In that manner, Morrowind and Oblivion have far more easier UIs for me to use. (they have other problems, though)l.

So, complexity in gameplay, yes, please, bit complexity in the controls, no thanks. (I really shouldn't have to read 200 pages of a thick manual to get to use the most basic features in the game, including, but not limited to, how to move, your character, how to fight, how to talk to someone etc. --- and this is what annoys me...not complex gameplay).

As I understand it, AutoAssualt is a sort of MMORPG where you character is a car?? and you can do certain things with this car, such as upgrade or style your car.

I certainly know a few of my lads* that would be interested in such a game. * And by that I means my students in the auto-class at the technicall college where I am working as a teacher ;)
