A general note and a combat suggestion

I've reviewed most of the previous postings, and I've a suggestion that I believe would add to the value of each idea: explain how your contribution would add to the play value of the game. For example, there are several suggestions for new firearms, what role would each serve? At the minimum, you need at least two types of pistol: a small one for low strength characters (due to stats or maybe a Buffout hangover), and a big pistol for characters who want the other hand free for something else (BTW, shouldn't two handed weapons occupy both slots? Why or why not?). Variations should offer balancing advantages and disadvantages, such as a quicker firing revolver and a high capacity automatic. If you want even more pistols, show how they would be different from others (range, accuracy, etc.)

Now, as to combat. As it stands, all combat is a fight to the death. This is not only unrealistic, but a pain in the ass (especially when Cassidy gets careless with the combat shotgun, and you wind up fighting your allies). There should be a surrender option, in which a side that is obviously losing (or is overmatched from the start) can end combat. The survivors will stand around, groveling and begging for mercy while you round up all their gear (allowing Steal actions, like party NPCs do). Of course, you can always massacre the prisoners afterwards, for a HUGE karma penalty, and maybe even a karmic title (Merciless).

And surrender can also be an option for players as well. If you attempt to end combat before the issue is decided, you get a popup "are you sure you want to surrender?" If you click "yes", then the bad guys either strip your gear and send you on your way, or else take you to see The Lieutenant, or whoever. Of course, elite types never surrender, and animals won't surrender or accept surrender.

Comments?

Well, well, well, a good thought through idea. Nice change of pace.
I'm not against this. It sounds pretty good. One thing that might be added however is that you should get the same amount of experience if they surrender as if you killed your opponents but otherwise a good idea.

That's a joke right? You've actually read everything in here? HAR HAR HAR!! If you did, your brain would be fried by now :)

Yeah.... I've got a comment for you. That's a darned good idea IMHO. Having people surrender to you sounds... Well... It certainly satisfies my over inflated ego :) Killing them afterwards for a karma title and a huge karma decrease sounds great. With any luck, I might be able to implement these into the Fan Made Fallout project.

Moo..... Moo.... I'm an Interplay Cow. (Ready to be milked with a Fallout style MMORPG with aliens!)

I think we need less MONSTER FIREARMS! Like the Guass rifle and mini-guns. Rocket launchers are fine but Guass with that one perk(Forgot the name)five for each aimed shot twice in the eyes. Seriously, I'd like more fifties/seventies fire arms. Also, the butt of the gun used as a weapon ... it would be usefull if you don't want to use lots of AP and don't want to make an inv dive.
