A little embarrassing question

Frank Horrigan@BIS

Still Mildly Glowing
To long since I've done it myself, so I need advices...

I've installed the patch and I want the game to use some files I've put in Fallout 2/data and their respective folders. The game although prefers to use the files that are in the dats (as it should do). Although I remember there was a way to make it use the files that were/are located in the data folder...but how I don't remember...anyone?

New problem appeared. I deleted the patch000.dat and created a folder with the name patch000.dat were I extracted all files from the original patch dat file, including the ones I wanted the game to use. Everything worked now as it should until I tried to save. The game does now create mapsaves in the fallout2/patch000.dat/maps and fallout2/data/maps folders which makes it impossible for me to save anymore...what now?

Read through the rest of Red's thread to see my comments about save game behaviour, but here it is again:

Assuming you're running on a W2K or XP system, you need to set the "Deny Write" attribute to the Patch000.DAT folder to both your current userID and the SYSTEM. If on Win98, then making the folder read-only should do the trick.

For details on how to set "Deny Write", consult your Windows help files.

No need to as I remembered the way I used to use. I simply extracted all files from the patch000.dat into Fallout2/data/and their respective folders, also replacing some of the files with my own. Afterward I just created a new patch000.dat were I only added the proto files. Everything works perfect now.

EDIT: But thanks anyway .
