Hi i just beacame a member so i could post on this topic as i think it is important ...

Ive taken a notice of the quality of mods and lack of anything new in fallout 1 and 2 ...

I think the only good stuff is coming from profesional modders and really in my opinion its all just a bunch of adding extra weapons and ammo Ect ...

When this game first came out i was impressed the black car mod was certainly a great mod but havent you noticed there are more editors then mods and there is only 1 mod with new maps for arroyo and klamath from teamx and its like a demo and the game is not new fresh off the self there has been pleny of time to make over the top quality mods ...

Ok iam not talking about tactics that seems to have a pretty decent editor that any noob can use and by that i mean its all compiled into 1 workstation ..... i think its about time for someone who is skilled enough to come forward and make an editor for this game ... i my self have tryed to use some of these editors and hexing really isn't my thing plus i need win edit stuff not dos ....

Along with that said i noticed you got all types of nice gun and ammo sprites on the NMA site that i can use easly in tactics but i can't get any to work in fall2 and thats basically cuz each editor is hard to use or needs a text copy of items lists go with it so you can sort the BS out or it comes without a readme that actually explains how to set it up and use it ... i see plenty of tuts but they don't tell ya how to set em up and what to do .... they take for granted we all college grads ...

Just look at the lenght of time the game has been out and the quality of the mods >>>> not very good

Id like to see mods with new weapon sprites out

Id like to see mods with new towns out <<< ppl don't cuz they can't script any of the encounters in the towns

Id like to see someone mod up new random encounters >>> maybe someone could throw some robots from tactics into fall2

Another thing i noticed is ppl fall into this catagory they can make a mod skinn for the armor ( Inventory ) but yet cannot make a new skinn for a person outfit of what a new armor would look like only pros can do stuff like that Example like in tactics i can change the sprites of my inventory what they look like but yet i can't make the gun look any dif from holding it ( forced to use game graphics )

Id like too see a mod that lets your companions stay with you even when you become a slaver ( i hate when you leave a companion in a town become a slaver and he will no longer join your group )

Id like to see a mod that allows Marcus to where armor : )

Id like to see mods that allow any of the companions to change there grapchics when they change armors

What i am getting at is all those editors and basically the mods that are out in all this time only dump like 200 tons of ammo and guns into a town >>> there are some good mods so i am not going to diss you ppl who worked hard on them

But why did ya even make FAME if like the only thing i am gonna use it with is the paint job ?? ok so theres the farri , horrigan , and flint the generous and he gives ya even more ammo right ???

Can't someone make some new towns and stuff and add em in 2 a mod ??

I could't belive there is still a forum going on about fallout after all this is getting to be an old game

Still without a shadow of a doubt my favorite game ; )

I just installed it after all this time decided to play it again ( can't get enough ) but then seen the lack of mods and got pissed that they are basically the same 1's of like 2yrs ago and yet ppl still moding now and no progress so

So heres too ya ( the kick in the butt ) to get the ball rolling !!!

Maybe someone could make a NPC that knowone has ever seen before with all new look and sound files and all that

Oh ya its alot of work but its not too much work if you check out the skinns for renegade or maps and stuff for war3 <<Examples

Example >>> Tactics lots of maps* Ya did i say theres like maps and missions in tactics

Wonder why they got a good editor something a noob can use

Not composed of 20 diff editors

>blablablabla.....etc...

Well basicly, when Fallout was released they didn't expect anyone being interested in having the editors (and yes there were more than one) and they got lost in the archives. The Fallout community has had to hack its way into Fallout in order to understand how it's build.

While it would be best to have all editors in one, do you really understand what a big undertaking that is? to make one editor like that I mean, it's HUGE!

And the reason there aren't any mods with new maps, is that we haven't had the ability to make new maps with ease before now (before the mapper).

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-03 AT 02:37PM (GMT)]Ya i understand its an old game but i guess its how much you like it that counts ...

I pre ordered all the fallout games and just the other day i decided to install and play again f2... seeing i had already played it too death as good and evil i was looking into the mods and thats when i turned my attion to the lack of ....

I just tested a hole bunch of the mods and heres a list of some that you could at least update to work with the patch and there not compatible like i used FAME and the 1.2 patch >>> now they may not have activated or not shown cuz i have win2000 so ??? >>> example like klint the generous , the farri, the truck that sort of stuff didn't even work at all i even tryed to rename them as ferriPatch000.dat and stuff still nothing ...

Then there are issues with the mods interferring with the patch >> frank horrigan armor , HK total conversion , neoknights, ect ...

The stuff i did get to work was the black car paint job and the teamx ammo fix after i used the (read 0nly option) and changed the files like i was told 2 in the readme and the M182 sniper rifle works plus the arroyo village save game and i got stuff from old days not even on the site like klamath saves and others from all over that fans made but those really ain't mods there just saved games files ...

Maybe you guys from the mod squad could update some of this stuff so it works with the newest patch

I said to my self why am i using FAME and going through the trouble of loggin in to the game through that prog for just 2 mods the paint job and M128 sniper i was like this ain't worth the trouble ???

Also other games now a days in like 3-4 weeks have tons of great 3rd party edits example like war3 theres a guy by himself that made an editor and put a hole bunch of em together and you guys are a mod squad a hole dam team thats what i am gettin at ...

Just whent to the site even the hex editor was discouraging its got a 30 trial version like its gonna take me 30 days just to learn it ..

I hope i gave enough examples of stuff that if i decide to come back here like in 4-6 10 months from now and get the erge to play that maybe i might have shook* up the place enough that someone may have made an editor or at least updated some stuff ...

Sigh oh well ; (

Maybe the games just too old now ; (

I at least got 1 good comment i should make, NMA was always my favorite site its got no BS adds ; )

And i got the good stuff that enhanced my first runs with fallout like the falche editors and the paint job at NMA : )

So thanks NMA and the mod squad for all the hard work you put into it : )

I know its a tough job hacking the game and learning all the stuff so i am not gonna diss you guys you did do alot of hard work >>> just i can't do it cuz i am not smart enough and you may know by now there are some very dedicated Fallout Fans and we just cannot get enough even when the site is jammed packed with mods it just not enough 4 us : )

This has all be my effort to get others to work 4 me : )

As i cannot do the modding my self but i can get ppl motivated enough to do it 4 me ; )

Does it show* that i just loaded up my f2 disc again after all this time and i came straight here to find that the site hasn't updated a new mod in like 2 yrs i got very depressed

Well ive run out of stuff to say but i noticed there was still movement in the forums so i took the chance to shake things up a little >>> wouldn't you if this was your favorite game of all time

Hope to see ya all in F3 if they ever make it we can only pray till then later

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-03 AT 08:29PM (GMT)]Well...that's all very interesting and I'm sure that more of us (the NMA Forum readers/posters) may very well agree w/ at least some of what you are saying.

I, for one, was kinda' in the same boat as you. I recently re-installed my F1-2 games (not Tactics - wasted my money on that one I think) and busted into one o' my old favourite sites, NMA.

It would seem like a good motivational method to possibly bust some chops and challenge some egos for some results, but I don't think it'll do much good.

F1-2 are setup very strangely. I don't personally think that they are very easy to mod at all. Some of the modding changes that you've mentioned as "has-beens" and minor changes are quite difficult to produce actually.

I too wanted more, and better, and more extensive mods. What I did was start learning to mod myself. Heck, I even busted back into hexing, something I typically despise. The engine is not too easy to manipulate and the tools for doing it are coming along slowly, but surely.

Hang in there...hell, bust into it yourself. Maybe you can figure out a way to manipulate the files and file types more easily. What do you have to lose? It is one of your favourite games, right?

Edit : Oh yeah...Favourite Weapon - McCann WR-300 "Wrist Rifle"
Oops, I mean the .223 Pistol...:)

Like Harleaquinn said, we all would like bigger and better mods for Fallout. The problem is that there isn't enough people with understanding in programming and the Fallout structure, that will spend alot of time making editors and such.

Thankfully we have the TeamX crew, which is actually making the best tools around for Fallout modding. The Mapper is coming along great, and there is alot of things you can use it for. Chris Avellone even said that the Mapper looks alot better than the editors they used.

So in one word, hang in there. Hopefully we'll have alot more mods and places to visit in Fallout soon.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Mar-05-03 AT 10:27AM (GMT)]Hi!

Since this seems to be a wishlist ....
I have some wishes too.....

Hasn't anyone tried to "fix" the lots of scripting bugs in FO2 ?
I was able to de-compile the scripts, but I do not understand a thing, since it seems, that I have to know a lot of C(++) stuff for that :-(((

Also - any chance to activate the "missing" Den Area - and the other missing things - EPA, Abbey etc. ???

Is there any mod, that makes the toxic-caves (cellar) have more stuff in it - like a real base ?
How can a map be edited anyway - is that what the "mapper" is for ?
Sorry didnt try it - yet.

How can I change the xp for defeating a critter ?
Is that in the part of the "unknown" in the Fuck-Editor - than I just have bad luck...

One last question: Can it be, that the "DeepImpact" Mod is totally bug ridden ? Its a pity, because the concepts of this mod are simply great!

As for Marcus: according to the fuck-Editor He has something like Combat Armor already (at least in the upper levels....). He cannot wear Power Armor, thats all ....strange enough, he can wear Boots ;-))

Hi!

Speaking of wishes...

A question/proposal for all the FO(2) Professionals:

Is it possible to make new locations appear on the worldmap WITHOUT
changing the exe ?

If so, could someone (or better several ones....) try to implement the "missing" areas of FO2?

f.e.
....Activate Den Residential
....Primitive village (could be taken from Shady Sands FO1 ???)
.........incl. a robbers camp (raiders from FO1)
....EPA (taken from Military Base FO1)
....Abby (from the Cathedral FO1)
....import Glow
...........Junkyard
...........Hub
...........Boneyard - all taken from FO1
....an abandoned vault (from Vault 15 FO1)

This way most of the needed script files (for quests etc.) would also be there - that would make 10 additional areas !!!
The needed items are all(?) available in FO2 anyway (but not yet used...)

This way there would be FO1 and FO2 in ONE Game - perhaps you would call it "Fallout 2.5".

I would try it myself, but I am no expert in FO-Things....
Of course I would try to help, where I can...

Just a thought - if it is possible at all ???
It sure would be a lot of work....

Greetings
Jona

I thought seems as it's a mix of Fallout 1 + 2 then it could be called 1.5 not 2.5, just a thought.:D
