I brought this up in another thread but felt it was a little bit of a hijack.

Anyhow, anybody know of a place I could stay between May 21th and june 7th (free/cheap*)?

Any suggestions are welcomed (including living with you guys).

Live with Hobbo's. I'm serious, it's not actually that bad at this time of the year, it only sucks to be a NY hobbo in the winter. It's cheap to the extreme and teaches you some instinctive life lessons about your fellow man.

hehe thank you guys.

I found this little "gem", hotel riverside studios. $39.
Google maps

Anyone heard about it before? I get the feeling this is one of those places people stay for a few hours max (doin their wang). Living there for 2 weeks might just be wierd (not that I really care)

Oh man. I bet this is one of those hotels where by daily bed changing they mean they just move the sheets from one room to the next. Complimentary herpes instead of mints too.

Two streets away from Central Park?

Nah, dude. Impossible. I've been there, took a stroll through that part of town, it's all nice sandstones in nice, squeaky-clean streets.

Ah, God bless old Jackboot Giuliani.

Incidentally, good luck if you wanted to see a hooker or a homeless man within a mile of your doorstep, monsharen :*(

Well I imagine the area is nice, but I thought that such a cheep hotel can't look good. I was connecting it to my experience in Paris. I stayed in a nice area in Les Invalides but my hotel was a shit hole.

I stand corrected though, as I see from Sander's link. That actually looks pretty nice.

See, that's not true. While I saw squeaky clean streets and squeaky clean houses, there were fuckloads of hobos all over the place, especially sleeping in Central Park.

Hookers were aplenty on teh avenues as well.

Hmm how about spanish harlem? 110th 1st ave. Might have a bed there, though the lady who offered me this said "my cleaning lady left for europe". Wonder what that really means, in those quarters.

Even though that hotel was cheap its still an assload of money I rather spend on food.

You could get a tent and camp in central park, your not supposed to but if you are cautious it's perfectly feasible.

"The Invalids"

It was a military hospital and retirement home for crippled officers.

There's also a few military heroes buried there, besides Napoleon. It's a pretty cool place to visit.
