Abby Mod troubles (AGAIN)

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
I've got a new problem now, so I'm recylcing my old thread on the Abbey so I don't have to clutter up the forum. Skip the first 7 or so replys to get to the stuff regarding this:

Alright, a month later I've got a completely new problem with the same map.

To fill you in, I'd been trying to add the Abbey and also a small map that I'd made as my first attempt with the mapper. After a long fight, I've finally gotten both to show up on the world map and my own map working. But trying to enter the Abbey from the world map results in the game locking up on a black screen.

My hunch is that the entry I added to the City.txt file is somehow conflicting with the already existing entry for the unfinished Abbey, or more likely some discrepency in one of the other files in the game. I didn't do anything special with the files to account for the Abbey having already been mentioned in some, just tried to make an all new entry with a differently named map (abbey2.map as apposed to abbey.map).

Anyone got ideas as to what to do?

Note to the Modderators: I'm putting this here, rather than in my other thread on adding locations, because I figure the Abbey is a special case since it's already in some game files.

--old thread--

Alright, so for the longest time I've been trying to get the abby mod working and I'm at my wit's end about it, so here's the problem:

I've tried both the English and Polish version (even though I don't speak Polish, I figured it'd be worth a shot to maybe figure out if the copy of the mod I had was faulty), and both give me the same problem: I install the mod just as the instructions sugest, unziping the mod's files to the Fallout 2 data folder, and then run the game. The readme says the abby should be north of Gecko, but there is nothing there. I've searched the whole world map with no luck. However, I know the mod does something because the Polish version translates all the item descriptions to Polish, and the English version doesn't contain any files relating to items that I've noticed (no 'proto' file in the english version).

Anyone got ideas? Maybe I'm just using an uncompatable version of the game? I bought this copy a couple years ago (replacing my old copies that were beat to hell) but I forget what the exact version was.

I had the same problem. That location mod didn't work for me until I started a new game. I think that if you start playing the game and enter the worlmap, all city locations are created then. Adding a new city after entering the worldmap would have no effect on the file where this info is stored (worldmap.dat maybe?), and therefore, you can't see/enter the Abbey.

Well, I guess you could try to install the game again. I guess it is possible that the worldmap info is being saved from game to game even though you start a new one. A question, though: are you using any other location mods? If so, it is possible the Abbey location is being cancelled out if you don't change a bunch of data.

I've tried reinstalling the game several times, and I'm not using any other mods. The City.txt checks out also.

It doesn't say in the instructions to unpack the Master.dat, only to put the mod's files into the data folder. But would unpacking the Master.dat and putting the files into it that way be a better way to go?

You could try that. But that shouldn't be necessary. After all, any files in the data folder will override anything in the master.dat file. One more question: are you using a patch000.dat? If so, I think that will override anything that is in the data folder. You may have to put the abbey files into your patch000.dat file (or just expand the patch000.dat file itself).

Yeah, I am using the Patch. I just tried to add the files to it, and it worked, and I've been trying to get the master.dat back together too, but my dat packer keeps having errors and crashing (using Dat Explorer). I'll give it a shot with just the regular Master.Dat and update later.

Abbey mod was made for 1.02 version of Fallout 2. It will cause problems, if you use Seraph or Killap´s patch.

Thanks, but I realised that the problem was me not being carful: after double checking the files, I realised the lock up was because the scripts didn't copy over to the data/scripts directory properly. But I'll look into those patches just incase I need them. Thanks again everyone, problem soved.
