About gambling

It's really cool NV brings Survival as a skill because you will need it (presumably) to survive in the desert and brings help to the HC mode but what about the more luxurious skill, gambling?

In Fallout 1 and 2, you had the opportunity to gamble and you could make some money out of it and the Gambling skill would help you but why isn't the Skill in Vegas? Vegas is the Sin City, it's pretty much about gambling and Vegas has those gambling minigames, wouldn't a skill be an allright bonus if you focused in gambling? Of course, the skill would be optional and would be useless in a more "combaty" build.
Fallout 1 and 2 had it's own "useless" skills so the Gambling would be useless to those who wouldn't focus on it.

This is just me pondering this, no offense toward the game, looking forward to it!

I believe gambling is going to be a luck check instead of its own skill. Makes sense IMO since there really isn't any skill in gambling, it all relies on luck. Wonder if they're bringing the loaded die back though :)

Makes sense, didn't really think about it and the Gambling skill in previous games is also affected by Luck.

Funny you say that. I'm probably thinking just the opposite. Unless you are sitting playing slots, there is some skill. Sure the house always wins, but a savy gambler can increase their chance of winning vs. the house from say 40% to 49%, which is an appreciable difference. And this is always poker (or games like it) in which the better players can take money from worse players.

But luck? I've never really liked the stat. I just don't see it existing. Sure some people get lucky, but do they have good luck? Of course not. A lottery winner is just as likely to get hit by a car as some guy who just broke a mirror while walking under a ladder as a black cat crossed his path. (If you can only look back at a person's life to assess their luck and not forward, then it's not some aura they carry it's coincidence.

Luck is in Fallout because it's a game and games aren't always too realistic. You can't increase your luck in real life, four-leaf clovers and rabbit's feet are just legend.

Who told you that? *throws salt over shoulder, holds lucky rabbits foot, wears lucky shades, and drinks luck potion*
