First time out of the vault
Hi all!
I once did some calculations with the accuracy of ranged weapons in FO1 and 2 and found out that nearly all of the new ones to FO2 have fewer accuracy than the ones that were already present in the first part of the series. Here are the details:
In FO1 every ranged weapon had a range of up to 50 hexes. you could divide them in two types:
- the ones with low range (pistols, SMGs, and low-ranged rifles like shotguns or flamer with a range of up to 25 hexes), and
- the ones with high range (all the other rifles and heavy weapons had something above 25 hexes).
ALL low-ranged weapons have a bonus of 8% to hit for every point of PE your character has. ALL high-ranged weapons have 16% to hit per point of PE. You can try it out yourself by loading a savegame with lots of different weapons and then aim at the same target with or without the withdrawal of alcohol or drugs. Note: Some very accurate weapons have a fixed bonus of 20% (I think) so don't be confused by that.
Now in FO2 the same test showed something else:
- The weapons from FO1 have the same accuracy in FO2. GOOD
- modified weapons (Speed Load, Exp. Mag, etc.) have the same accuracy as the unmodified ones, or (like for the hunting rifle) a special bonus. GOOD
- All the other weapons, no matter what range, have only low-ranged accuracy. B A D
This has to be a bug, because some of the weapons from FO2 should be equal or superior to some weapons from FO1, and they ALL AREN'T. Examples:
- all FNFAL types and the XL70something compared to Assault Rifle
- Avenger and Vindicator compared to Minigun
- SAW, M60, Bozar compared to Minigun or Assault Rifle
- Pulse Rifle compared to Laser or Plasma Rifle
- Gauss Rifle compared to Hunting or Sniper Rifle
As I see it, it just doesn't make sense to give weapons a high range when you can only aim with them as good as with a pistol.
If any modders find this post, I'd love to see a fan-patch that will finally fix this.
