Action Strategy games

First time out of the vault
Ok, I like Fallout Tactics and I keep hearing it's a crappy tactical strategy, but the only other one I own is SOA and I like that too, even though it's a bugfest.

Anyone know of any other good tactical strategy games (besides JA2) I just love equiping my team and executing a perfect plan decimating a superior force and there has to be other games out there that let me do this, the only ones I have played are FOT,SOA,JA2, and Commandos 3 which I didn't like very much

thanks :D

Ditto on Silent Storm great game, excellent graphics with fully destructible (well, almost anyway) terrain. Not perfect, but not very far from it either.

Silent storm was great, but they should really have fixed the voice overs. And maybe added a story. Otherwise, fun.

Consider playing some old-school games. Laser Squad, UFO: Enemy Unknown, X-Comm: Terror from the Deep and Police Quest: SWAT 3... Now THOSE were best team-based tactical games EVER!

And let's not forget Syndicate and Syndicate Wars... The very thought of detonating a nuclear warhead in the middle of a crowded city still gives me a hard-on. I wonder what happened to my old Syndicate Wars CD.

if you say swat 3 you should probably also say rainbow 6

R&D, the blimp, Briefcases with nuclear bombs, civilians with uzis stashed in their briefcases, laserattacks from orbit, nervegas, drugging your squadmembers to make em go berserk, stealing an artillerytank!

ah such a great game, only a pitty it's so old

Don't have anything new to add to the above, except:

The new UFO: whatever, game that was supposed to be based on the X-com franchise blew chunks bigtime. terrible story, boring tech research, impossible maps, bad play balance (you'd go from wasting everything on the map to being wiped out in seconds, all in the space of 2 missions...if you made it past by save/reload you'd encounter the same boom-to-bust cycle throughput the game)

I can't discourage you enough from getting this game.

Oh and unlike the original X-com series (still my favorite squad-tac game), you can't wipe out entire city blocks with well placed rocket-fire...almost EVERYTHING was destructable in those games....they rocked.

Another vote for silent storm, just try to enjoy it before getting the panzerkleins (a kind of power armor you get after awhile), because those ruin the game in my opinion.
Also, try the first 2 x-coms, the first one (enemy unknown) is the best, but terror from the deep, despite having some problems, is great too (much like the fallouts).

Avoid the newer x-com (apocalypse and the new one) they're REALLY bad.
Also, if you want tactical combat, i'd tell you to avoid the commandos series, it's more of a puzzle game then anything else (not that it's bad, but they remind me of the incredible machine)
