Affectionately known as "Crack Division", Activision releases a multi-platform release, but only the console games are worth playing. They show the ad, then they have the games for all supported platforms on the same in-store, with the same pictures and wording on every box back. The pictures, of course, are probably taken from a few shared frames of CGI.
The item of warning this time? Probably some shameless ploy to make PC games seem inferior to consoles to the more ignorant people. Or it was someone's attempt to argue Fifi's brand of logic. "See! Spider-Man 2 for the PC did terrible! PC games aren't the way to go." Most people get the idea that a handheld is lacking in the same quality, but they have always expected the PC port to have something behind it.
Crack Division gave development to Treyarch Invention, LLC for the consoles, and all of those are fun to play. The PC port, of which I received to make a review for because of this problem, was utter bullshit made by some no-name development studio by the name of "The Fizz Factor". It played like some third-rate console kiddy game, simplistic as hell, and was boring within a few minutes.
Activision's press-releases were all with the intent of being misleading, as most sites who have all Spider-Man 2 games listed have them with the same general summary. Mobygames has the same summary for each, but you can tell by the screenshots that the games are quite different. In fact, Activision makes fraudulent claims about the PC version on their own site.
Hmmm, might be time to talk to some friends at Marvel, including their new IP Coordinaters. Other than that, it looks like Activision will just shrug at any lawsuit and do this again to fleece more people through this dishonest method. The news sites will continue to feed from Activision's hand, and the hype machine still keeps going.
I have included a few screen captures of not the game, but evidence of Crack Division's dishonesty.
Notice the claims on the page? Look down towards the bottom. Notice that it has the PC CD-ROM symbol there. Just like the TV advertisements. Not just the Activision site, the next pic, too.
The PC page is still "Coming Soon". Oh, and the demo for the PC platform was another marketing hoax, for those who sent in Cheez-It UPCs or some bullshit like that In fact, the only way to know of the fraud before the release was to read a few select newsbits, but even moreso the comments on other Spider-Man 2 news bits.
The console page has all sorts of infortmation.
Yet, here's their possible "legal loophole".
