Adding Addiction effects via scripting

I asked over at Beth's forums, but I thought I'd ask here, too...

I want to run a script where at the end of a conversation between the PC and an NPC, you get afflicted with an addiction (Psycho, Mentats, etc)

How do I script it?

I tried player.addspell WithdrawalPsycho, but when I test it in game, I get the message saying I'm addicted, but when I look in the PipBoy, no stats are affected and the Withdrawl isn't showing up in the Effects menu.

Any ideas?
 
Addictions are basically enchantments, just like any other effect. They're just "flagged" as an addiction for superficial purposes (the "You've become addicted to ___" message).

The GECK has an idiot-proof GUI version of dialogue-triggered effects built into the dialogue tree editor.
