Ads with sound : How do ya kill the fuckers.

PsychoSniper

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Ive used AIM for a while for IMing freinds, but occasionly starting recently theyve been using these damn adds that have audio that triggers randomly.

How do ya kill the fuckers, other than turning sound off ?

Use a better IM client. Try Gaim or Trillian (different people recommend either one), which both have ICQ, IRC, AIM, YM, and MSN compatibility. That should solve your problem.

That's my ad hoc solution anyway, never used AIM directly, so I can't help you if you want to keep the program and just eliminate that 'feature.'

I think PeerGuardian blocks the ads from showing but I have never heard the sounds you speak of. I recommend using Trillian.

I belong to the group suggesting alternatives :) and besides Trillian and Gaim there's also Jabber with many clients for various platforms, however you can't handle nontpyical things like password changes directly through the client (but AIM allows to change that on their WWW, doesn't it?).
Oh and you can connect to various IM networks and stuff (even weather forcasts... depends on your server)

I'm presently using the PSI client for jabber, which can cooperate with my OpenPGP :)

I allerady use an opensource IM program, but I like using AIM directly since some of the other options like filetransfer dont work 100% on trillian and others.

I think I'll look for that crack like Phil suggested.

EDIT

Found it
