Anyone ever play Advanced Squad Leader.
This is an old system with a lot of fans published by Avalon Hill.

For game play related stuff- try. http://www.warfarehq.com/asl/asl_hq.shtml

This is some difficult stuff to learn, but as the pages above say, it can be used for virtually any aspect of small unit combat.

I know they tried to make this into a computer game but it was a rather crappy squad based combat game. Did anyone ever try to introduce the system as a computer based tactical game?

As if I didn't have enough to do with Warhammer  It looks very interesting; thanks for the link, Welsh!

This is really an excellent system with lots of expansions. Expensive though. I know they came up with a system for miniatures. Squad Leader is more of a tactical game involving the use of squads and company or battalion size organizations. Lots of fairly small unit combat.

But so many modules. Amazing stuff really.

Has anyone ever played the excellent hex-based turn-based tactical game Steel Panthers? ASL reminds me of it. Matrix Games has brought out a new free version of Steel Panthers, called "Steel Panthers : World at War"; it has more units than you can shake a stick at (Elissar, stop waving that crowbar please!), you can have on- and off-board artillery, airstrikes, paratroopers, infiltrating commandos, even mule-drawn carts.

Edit: I certainly can post a link, Welsh. http://www.steelpanthersonline.com/main.asp No worries!
