News from the Afterfall folks- <blockquote>Afterfall and Unigine Corp. combine forces.

Unigine Corp., creators of a high-quality graphics engine - Unigine, and Intoxicate Interactive have signed a license agreement for the engine. The agreement is so favorable for Intoxicate Interactive that the young developers do not have to pay any fees up front and can focus on making their game. Unigine developers emphasize the need for cooperation with both young and innovative development groups as well as providing middleware solutions to large established companies. The decision of Unigine Corp. was influenced by the professional quality of work at Intoxicate Interactive that has just completed the pre-production of its first game - Afterfall. The Unigine engine shall be used to develop both a demo version of Afterfall and the final product.

The Unigine engine has powerful 3D render, integrated physics, GUI, built-in scripting system, sound module (all of this is available both under Linux and MS Windows), and supports most of modern technologies like background data streaming, soft shadows, HDR and much more. Unigine improves the appeal of the Afterfall, making it indistinguishable from large-scale commercial projects both with regard to graphics and physics.

“Acquiring Unigine has enabled us to drastically improve the pace of our work on Afterfall. However, we are still looking for additional funds and growth opportunities. Please visit Afterfall Marketing [hyperlink], where you can learn more on our initiative” said Andrzej Koloska, founder of Intoxicate Interactive.

“All of us were amazed of what Afterfall team have already created on the basis of Unigine, these guys surpassed our expectations about capabilities of our own engine. We do believe in Afterfall team because they managed to go so far in the development of their project without any financing. That’s why we have supported them by providing Unigine technologies for free at the period while they have no publisher or any kind of investor. I’m sure that this going to be a great game if someone will support this talented team” commented Denis Shergin, CEO of Unigine Corp.</blockquote>Link: Afterfall Marketing

Good luck to Intoxicate and the rest of the Afterfall team.

So this means that they haven't got to pay the ~95$ for the kit that would allow them to create a tech demo?

They need access to the sources, the documentation and the support, Stolve, to really make things fly. And that's pricey.

The evaluation version is for one week support, you can't hope to make a tech-demo with that, just toy.

No. That we dont have to pay 20 000 $ for specjal licence of Unigine. And that we can make this demo - if we will get some money...

Yes and we have done it. Now we are ready to make somethin big, Afterfall: Preludium.

So.. that's another engine switch, then?

How far developed is the game, anyway? How does this affect development? Start from scratch? Redo all assets?
Or can you plug most of your work into the new engine somehow?

I see you're a big fan of ingame advertisement. Couldn't you just use posters and bill boards?

Ah, but posters are just posters. Items are mentioned in the solutions and their use discussed on fora ;)

It's all about the money, really, they can't afford to make this game without funding, hence, the need for product placement.

That's not an engine switch, it's going from Eval to Source.

The full game is almost completely designed (now we're just adjusting bits and pieces).
Afterfall: Preludium design is ready, and we are working on sound, models, stats etc.

From our calculations we see that we gain 8-9 months thanks to getting the engine, there are things in it we had to implement ourselves for TSE (e.g. the physics and the in game GUI). The engine is a totally complete solution. As for our work and code - there won't be any problems with getting that running with the new engine - it will take us 2 weeks at most, as we have a few systems/prototypes that can be easily converted to Unigine.

Can you imagine billboards in a German military base?

Yes, with money Preludium will be ready in the end of 06.

The whole game takes place in a German military base? Duh!
Aren't there any ruined cities or the like?

Claw, look: we are making now Afterfall: Preludium - A DEMO of Afterfall. We must do that because we want to make dev studio in poland, we have some contact, but first we MUST ship Demo.
Demo is small game in German Military Baze, you can wath wideo from this location made in EVAL of Unigine on our site, and NMA download to.

When we are ready with demo we will start production of full game: Afterfall. Preproduction will be ready.

There will be info about Preludium in end of next month.

And Claw in our site there is MUCH info about Afterfall, you can read about full game.

How do you make it 20 grand? From the products page:
Full source code access. The license allows distribution of a single software product. Free access to updates during lifetime of the release. 50% discount for forthcoming Unigine v0.4.
Read license agreement text.

Price: $4985, royality-free.
Ok, 5 grand isn't just pocket money, but it sure isn't 20 grand. So what are the remaining 15 grand for?

Whores and Jet? :D

We had Stolve Eval version for $100, the special version 0.4 is going to cost $20k as far as I know, other versions will be cheaper, of course. $20k for such an engine isn't that much anyway, and you won't get a better engine for such a price.

There goes my post. Damn, what's wrong with the forum?

Anyway, nothing suggested pp would be limited to the demo, the texts on the site are a bit too longwinded for my taste, game mechanics look good at a glance, but we'll see how it develops.
Oh, and I ain't sure why it has to be v0.4, but then we do live in the age of graphic whoredom.
