In Fallout 3 maybe you could play 1/3 of the game as a kid. Don't ask me were i came up with this crazy idea. It could probably tell more about the currents chosen one's life and maybe even get to meet the last chosen one. The rest of the game you could play as an adult. Oh yeah and Sarah Michelle Gellar is very hot.

"Oh yeah and Sarah Michelle Gellar is very hot."
I hear you brother! :)
If you play a third of the game as kid it would be just like Zelda: Ocarina of Time. We don't want that. Besides what could you do in a
post-nueaclear world as a five-year old? Shoplift? Run errands for your mom? Or maybe run around like the kid in Mad Max 3:Beyond Thunderdome? Yeah that would be realy great! *sarcasm'

Actually I think it would do a lot for story line,
you could witness for first hand as a child the evils of the Enclave or your home town could get burned down by raiders, and since your the special chosen one, you are the only who survives the inferno, and with your tiny heart crushed as you watched your family die, you wonder off into the wastes, not caring ware you go <insert rest of story here>

Playing as a child in the beginning could also act as tutorial for newbies, kinda like the temple of trials, only with more plot ;')

You can see your village get burned when you're 25 just as much as when you're 12. The age doesn't make it any different. If you run around in the wastes as a twelve-year old you would die very soon. If you don't die then you most surely get killed or captured by slavers. And if you against all odds manage to kill those slavers and take their weapons (which I don't think could happen because, frankly Idon't think a twelve year old child could kill someone if he/she isn't disturbed or psycothic) what would you do?

The ideas are taking odd directions

Hmm.
1. Kilroy is kinda right.
A "prologue" as you are describing, can be seen as an intro movie, be told as a found HOLODISK, etc.
You usually don't play PROLOGUEs that go too far back to the past, in any game.
In BG, the "prologue" chapter is simply the BEGINING OF THE GAME, and in it you see your father die, and your medium-sized heart is broken, and you begin your quest.

LET'S ASSUME that bis accepts your idea, i think it should be in the form of either some JOKE (i.e, you find the young you in some encounter)
or as a GOODIE (inserted in the demo or whatever).
There's no POINT playing a large part of the game, SERIUSLY - as a kid.

Oh ya i can imagine your character creation.
Skills: SHOUTING *REALLY* LOUD 30%
PUSHING BAD GUYS 21%
WITNESSING EVENTS 45%

SMALL STICK 11%
BIG STICK 5%
ENERGY STICK 1%

TRAITs: FAST-FART (you're anal abilities are higher than noraml. use them wisely)
PRANK-MASTER ( You are able to do pranks and laugh really loud, better than anyone else.
use with caution. people are not tolerant)
STR : 2
INT : 1
CHA : 4 (you're a kid)

and so on...

I mean, common.
What, you'll get two times to create your character? once when you're a kid, and once when you're older - so u can choose gun skills and such?
Or maybe you WON'T make a kid character, but then all kids will be the same... so uh... wow that's so RPG.

This idea is not CRAZY or ABSURD, it is simply pointless.

Why should I play as a kid?
I ASSUME, when i play a character which is 20+ years old, in Fallout (or in any RPG), that it had a childhood, and that it was not important.
You don't need to play 1/3 a game as a kid TO WITNESS stuff, or to know facts.
You can simply READ, or SEE it, if BIS will even want to do that.
None of the FOs had connection to your CHILDHOOD.
In 1, they said - "YOU ARE A DESCENDANT OF A FAMILY WHICH LIVED IN A NUCLEAR SHELTER"
In 2, they said - "YOU ARE A DESCENDANT OF THAT
GUY. HE FOUNDED A TRIBE CALLED ARROYO"
Done.
You want to experience different time periods?
Suggest BIS to make this game 500% more complex and hard to make by adding a time-travel feature to it.
Ya - a non-linear time-travel-equipped CRPG, that's piece of cake...
But then, WHY SHOULDN'T HE JUST GO TO 2078, before the war, or even 2000+ and just try to prevent it.
Or why shouldn't he GO AND LIVE in the "past" like the 21st or 20th century and give a fuck about the world?

See, a Time-travel feature could maybe fit in WELL in a story, but then you're game will happen in the past as you try/not try to save the world.
And for every gun shot, you'll get arrested, investigated, and oh goody, they could add many new skills.
BRIBE
ESCAPING JAIL
LAWYER
and so on...

This is just not the game for it.
Hmm, but you didn't say that right? Sorry i was carried away :)
anyway.

You're idea will remain just that, an idea.
It cannot be added to FALLOUT as a main part(SURELY not a 1/3) of the game - without destroying the rest of the game, or at least decreasing the amount of FO3 consumers to 20 or 30.
About sarah michelle gellar: why the hell did you mention her, is she connected to this?
Maybe you wanted to give a hint that you want to make Fallout into a VAMPIRE game?
Both BUFFY and FALLOUT have CHOSEN-ONES...
suggest that to BIS.

Anyhow.
I prefer they put alot into making the game as much as unconnected to FO1 and FO2 as possible, without showing me MORE of the two characters i know too well. (to those of you who fail to understand, i refer to the characters you play)
When FO4 will come, we'll think about "reunion".

I'm dying to see if you will be able to write to me - WHAT WILL YOU DO THIS 1/3 OF THE GAME, 1/5 OF THE GAME, WHATEVER, WHEN YOU ARE A KID. in more than 4 lines, without making me laugh.
("You can get make a secret-super-ultra-cool club only for boys, which will later become the ENGAY - a clan which terrorizes the nearby villages.

"ahh, you're here. Good. Our food supply has run short, and our car is out of energy. We need you to find that shop - and get those cheese snacks.
It is crucial for our survivor!
We estimate you have about 150 hours, and we marked your map with a the place which used to be a huge city called the HUB. Not a bad place to start i think.
Look, Just don't pee in your pants if you hear a scary voice, okay?"

hmmm...

What's wrong with saying Sarah is hot? She is hot, I just thought i'd put that in becuase....well...i can. Fallout: Vampier Slayer? nah. I'm thinkin more of Fallout: Gone in 60 Seconds. hehe

RE: The ideas are taking odd directions

Actully, Buffy is allready in FO2. If you play as afemale char named Buffy, you get some stuff from Becky in the Den if you're level 4 or higher.

Wow, I never knew that. What kind of stuff? Damn, now I need to replay the game to verify this :-)

RE: hmmm...

See I knew me adding the name buffy would get you something in the game. She's just full of surprises.

RE: hmmm...

Allright maybe not 1/3 of he game but a small portion to complete some special quests, etc. Lets say you can only get into certain areas as a kid. People in the later years blocade the entrance to the place that has something important that you needed to complete. Or maybe you can only fit into small entrances to caves or somethin that an adult can't. You wouldn't be too good at combat tht is the draw back. You have to have challenges in the games. It could possibly higher your sneak skills to get past people that you would surely get your ass kicked against. And the traits and stuff that a child could not use would just be non usable until you're an adult. It would raise some experience for later years. I mean how can a guy start out with 45% of a trait without ever using it? This would be a more realistic experience added to the game. Yuo all started shooting guns at an early age didn't you? It could raise some skill points for small guns for example. There are many possibilities to being a kid for a short amount of time.
